Some of the things you guys are talking about I did run into. I tried to counter them as best as I could. I'll explain. First, yes, if a territorially adjacent race goes to war with you, without a military you've got a real problem. For that reason, one of my primary concerns was to always keep adjacent races allied or at least not hate me. In the event an adjacent, or geographically nearby race DID go to war with me, I had to make sure they had plenty of more powerful targets

Anyone ever been successful playing a non-combat, diplomatic victory game? I recently tried this. Playing as Terran (super diplomat), maxing out diplo attributes, I gave myself the rules: - Cannot build or upgrade any ship to have weapons or defences - Cannot research or trade for any combat tech (weapon or defense) - soldiering allowed. You know the way to play the game is to conquer your opponent. Build up, crush them, rejoice at your greatness. But what if we break from the norm? I just started a game where I decided to try something different. What if I put military as a bottom priority? What if I concentrated on sel

Omg, I just had the lamest experience. The first time I played and the dread lords came, I though "oh crap", and launched a pre-emptive strike on them. They had no ships, and even with their crazy soldier advantage, I was able to take their planet in about 5 turns from event. Just now, I was playing a 6-player game. Everything was going pretty well for me, even though I had 3 opponents at war with me (and I couldn't make peace). I had nicely customized cruisers, and my enemi
