Esteemed councilors, With regards to research I would prefer to take a more offensive approach and research more advanced lasers followed by stronger/bigger hulls before moving on to defenses. I would agree to declare ourselves as a Neutral civilization , especially since that avoids causing major friction with races that hold a less balanced view. I would only gift war ships to the Trilarian under two conditions:
Noctilucus
Indeed no increase in Metaverse usage but lately I have seen more questions from new players, so it seems there are still people discovering GalCiv II.
I do understand the ownership thing, I was just wondering whether you were worried about practical issues or something. Come to think of it, I don't have GalCiv II installed anymore so I'm fine with summary reports ;)
Why do you have reservations against the idea? I'm fine either way as well, though I wouldn't want this to take hours for you...
2. While trade usually doesn't rake in huge amounts compared to taxes, it does help. As you already know, far trade routes yield more (with the trade ships bringing in more cash when they are further away on their route); sending them to capitals of other races also helps though I don't know the exact relationship between trade income and the planet's economy. 10 trade ships can easily bring in 500 bc each turn without using any economic starbases The most important impact of
The bar colors green when your total offer has reached a level that's acceptable for the AI. If it shows red, it means that you're not offering enough for the AI to consider your proposal. The only exception are influence points that have a bug: the AI will only consider up to 999 influence points at a time; above that amount it will not attribute any value to whatever number of influence points you're offering.
Approval doesn't depend on the distance to your home planet. However, higher quality planets get a boost to approval. On the other hand, as of a certain population size you get a penalty to approval which is mainly the issue that you have on your home world. There are also technologies in the yellow tree that boost morale. On your home world one of the best buildings is a political capital (50% bonus to morale) though some races have even better unique buildings. Also, there'
Same opinion here. We're almost more active voting to move on than actually voting in the AAR [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e]
I know there have been some "walkthrough" examples of games posted here in the past but they're hard to find back due to the search engine and the sheer size of the forum. I would recommend that you post specific questions, e.g. do you have trouble in the early or late game, colonization, military, economy, etc. as it's easier to provide recommendations rather than describing a total approach to the game (which varies a lot by player anyway)
... Question about planets - Do guys usually designate a planet type to be purely one focus? For example, a planet of quality 7 or lower would be designated just for research buildings, or do you mix them up
My home planet will be a mix at first since I both want to get some ship construction and some early research going. Once I'm past those few weeks I'll dedicate it mostly to economy (getting an economic & politica
Some pointers to help your economy: 1) When choosing your race and political party, spend some points on economic bonuses, morale bonuses, potentially population growth and definitely also on research. The political party that gives you an economic bonus is a good choice. 2) At the start of the game, lower your taxes so your approval reaches 76% or 100% (thresholds to get a boost to your population growth). Note that this is taken into account for individual planets. For examp

Already my two cents though there are much more experienced players out here (I tend to play between painful and crippling difficulty): - Improving production buildings: basically the sooner, the better because it speeds up both your building and ship construction. The two factors that delay me from upgrading my factories immediately are economy and the research time to get to this improved factory. As a result, I will first aim to research Trade (so I can build my economic capit
No. I auto-save often in any case and I notice that I tend to save before executing a risky move but I simply don't reload. Usually when such a stunt fails I can either recover or the game is beyond hope anyway...
Research qrtxian's proposal: +, +, + Galactic Stock Exchanges Planetary Bombardment Advanced Navigation Centers <span
Interesting, at least it's the first time that I see this strategy being posted here.
A late reply as I haven't been browsing this forum for a while. To set focus on one of your planets, double-click the planet, then look at the top of the screen where you see the hammers, some other symbol and the beakers. Then left-click either of these 3 areas to put focus there. You'll see the numbers next to the hammers and beakers change + the selected area will be lighter in color. To change back, click the same area once more.
I think I was the only one who posted last time, indeed let's hope that now that there is news and some big events are upcoming (war!) everyone will follow more closely :)
Esteemed assembly, I also support the proposal to build our manufacturing capital on Fondor. Regarding research, I agree to focus first on galactic stock exchanges since a strong economy is the engine behind every decision we make in other areas. Advanced navigation centers would be a good second technology. Like my fellow councilor qrtxian I would like to get more intel on the Sakkra and Silicoid, not only to decide who should be our prime target but also to assess where
Your home planet will always have a large population cap so you will always have some "overpopulation", so you'll need to add buildings that improve morale such as a political capital. The other planets are usually fine if you don't build farms (or if you add morale buildings if you build farms) as long as your taxes are not extremely high. You don't need to reduce your population, only compensate it on your home planet with morale improvement buildings &
Part of the reason is that they seem to trade weapon technology quite actively amongst each other, so if 1 starts researching a certain weapon type, you can almost expect the other races to soon follow suit. I've had cases where the AI would add defenses specifically targeting my weapon type but that may only be when they are either at war with you or planning to do so soon.
To Publius of NV's point, the relation between morale and population growth on each individual planet has the following "steps": 1) Morale at 100%: boost to population growth. In the case of races with the super breeder ability, the boost is even considerably higher 2) Morale 76% or higher: slight boost to population growth 3) Morale 46% or less: decrease in population growth 4) Morale 26% (not entirely sure of the exact number) or lower: no population grow
Esteemed assembly, I fully agree on first researching xeno banking, as our economy needs to keep the engine running and it should be ready to support a bigger military if needed. While I do consider the proposed democratic system to be a benefit, I would prefer to research planetary invasion ourselves as I expect other races to ask a steep price for this technology. If some of our more distant planets haven't fully developed their population, it might be worth sending
Sorry for the thread necromancy, I was just wondering if anyone else had advice on playing as the Drengin/Korath as I also find them very hard to play as, falling behind in research and thus being unable to fight the wars I'm supposed to be able to fight, particularly once the tech inflation on weapons kicks in.
Personally I consider the Korath to be one of the easiest races to play, probably because they're th
Rush buying is buying a ship or building in 1 week rather than waiting for construction to finish. For buildings, you need to select it in your building queue and click the "buy" button at the bottom of the screen, see for example this screenshot: <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/GalacticCivilizationsIIColony.png" alt="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Gala
