"Evil will always triumph over good, because good is dumb" - Dark Helmet, Spaceballs! There is no doubt Evil has the best bonuses right now. What I would like to see is a system where being evil nets you bonuses early, but being good nets you BETTER bonuses at end game. Perhaps some good-only late game techs that give you the edge when all techs are just about maxed. That will make people like me play good because I like to finish researching the entire tech tree before I go to w

I like the new spy system. It adds another dimension to the game. Not only do you have to defend your empire in a new way, but it also gives you a new way to attack enemies without declaring war. I cannot even recount how many times it saved my ass in a tight war by disabling key 700% tiles and capitals, as well as farms and morale buildings for information tactic invasions. I do agree that espionage and sabotage should be separated, though. How to do this? Well, maybe if you simply wa

I have a pretty simple labeling system for my regular ships that will be upgraded and replaced often. I use either a B/M/G to designate a weapon type of Beam, Missle, or Gun (mass driver) and then a ship type depending on hull size: tiny - fighter small - frigate medium - destroyer large - cruiser huge - battleship then I use a Mark system to label the generation of the ship. so for a 3rd generation beam fighter would be BFighter Mk3. I generally use t

yeah forgot the morale bonus too. It actually makes it pretty useful if you need both morale and to be rid of spy problems on a planet. here is what happens without the espionage centre: http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6695/damnspiesra8.png I cannot build my own spies fast enough to nullify the enemy spies even if i maxed out at 25% spending. all 4 of those planets were my major manufacturing capitals. ha

FYI, Stardock has already looked into getting the rights to a MoM sequel, but things are still tied up in the legal sense. why not just make a clone then? come up with enough of your own original ideas to avoid legal issues. There is no need to ressurect a dead franchise especially since the rights are not easy to obtain. build your own game universe and make it famous instead!

Could just be my area since I have no idea where this forum's server is located but the response times are damn near ridiculous most of the time. Stardock, you already have our money so could you maybe invest in a better server? Anyone else agree this server is too slow?

which is why I like the new spy system in DA. I can control all aspects of spying, even though it's now you can get caught. If you save up some agents you can still get to advanced level espionage quite quickly by dropping them all at once. And I make sure I research counter-espionage nice and early

spies are also good for propaganda invasions, especially with the evil no-mercy-invasion-centre. drop a couple of spies on morale buildings and increase your invasion force by billions. not only do you weaken the opposing troops but you now have more population to start with on your new planet.

this must be on gigantic map cause I can not afford to fund a 20k rp planet. I never play on maps bigger than large. Large already takes me up to a week to finish. I don't want to play the same map for over a month

spies are really powerful especially on smaller galaxies with few planets. There's nothing like dropping 25 spies on the enemy on the same turn (took me some 15 years to accomplish this number at 1% investment). The most powerful thing i've discovered is that putting spies on farms cripple the population and add even more hurt. The thing is that you only need the spy on the farm for 1 turn make the population evaporate and lose 10s of billions of population. the next turn you can put the spies o

since it's random you may simply be unlucky. In my experience the mega events only happen at end game to shake up the game balance. if you're winning too quickly it may be the reason why you never seen them

they must truly hate you then. I remember in my last influence game on tough, i had a these minuses on all the AIs -militaristic -alarming influence -close borders -"we know what you're doing" -tendancy to conquer others, and I was close with 3/4 of the remaining AI. the last one was friendly. I didn't even have trade routes with any of them the entire game (I was role-playing my super-isolationist role by not trading)

and if you have money to spare (and you should if you are doing this properly) then build 10 spies and drop them all at the same time on your nearest opponent to slow them down. you can literally make several planets useless with spies and force them to divert all their spending on counter-spies. I love putting spies on farms for 1 turn each to cripple their populations (it's kind of a dirty trick, i know)

I find it difficult to win a pure peaceful victory. I find it much easier though if you are a warmonger early game. If you sucessfully warmonger early, it assures you have a better start and larger planet base to tech. I usually try absorbing 2 major civs and as many minor civs as I can before I try for a peacful victory. This almost ensures that I'm at least 2-3x larger than my next closest competitor. This is better if you disable surrenders so you can gobble up all their planets. If you are b

ringworlds and dyson spheres are not only impractical to build due to the huge amount of materials and manpowerneeded, but a common solar flare will seriously damage or destroy the structure or the inhabitants and equipment on the structure. It's just not practical to live that close to a fusion bomb

You should reload (if you're not opposed to reloading) and take that last planet yourself

My experience is that minors start with pretty high tech. I've had a minor race come in with 100% in soldiering. They were pretty tough to invade. This was near end game, so I think their starting tech level depends on some function of the average galactic tech at the time.

wow, some pretty crappy laws got passed in your game. If you think you can get by without trade (I always need trade) then you should consider leaving. This is permanent though. If you're managing your morale well you should upgrade right away. The bonuses are a huge 25% for each production type per government upgrade. I notice that the AI doesn't upgrade very often as they are quite poor at managing morale. It's not unusual to see AI planets at 40% morale or lower, especially during wa

I've never thought about that "sniper" ship strategy before against the dumb AI. Too bad a simple AI change to escort their transports (or build combat ones) will effectively nullify this strat

The war wasn't go well in the first place cause I was fighting them and their allies the torians (whom I was focused on fighting at the moment) It was the nail in the coffin as the altarians and torians combined were stronger than me and I had neither the time nor resources to fight them for control of those planets and fend off the torians at the same time. This event effectively doubled the number of habitable planets in that galaxy, 90% of which were taken by the altarians and filled with in

Well it pretty much ended the game for me because I was terran rank 1 at the time and the arceans (rank 9) found the precursor device and there were high class planets in a 2-sector radius around their discovery. Unfortunately, they were next to the altarians (rank 2) that I was at war with. I'm sure you can guess who ended up with all those juicy high class planets
