People often draw analogies between the United States and the Romans. We have many advantages over the Romans, though. The greatest of these that I see is: we have a tremendous amount of historical data on a level far beyond what the Romans appear to have had. You asked whether the Romans were aware of what was about to happen. Some of them were, but it appears to me that public awareness of the problems confronting America is far more widespread than awareness in the Roman civilization was
In TA this would be by design. Try out a different race.
I agree. Think about the Iconians from a storyline/backstory point of view. If I understand correctly, they are a militaristic empire, albeit a fairly friendly one. Their main challenge as a society is adapting from their old government style (which mimicked the Precursors' style) to a new and modern style that will work without the Precursors being there to help them along. It makes sense that de-imperializatio

I would like to support Jarod Silverstar's suggestion: if it is possible, please allow technologies to have more than one pre-requisite. As it stands now, every time I set two or more pre-requisites the game automatically grants me all but one of the pre-reqs. I understand that this may not be a "tweak" -- I cannot determine for certain whether it would be a major change or not. My friend who is studying XML in his college programming course felt that it wouldn't take very much work

What do you mean "start as evil?" Do you mean that you start leaning towards the evil side of the spectrum? Or do you start with the ability to research concepts of malice (as though you had researched xeno ethics). If you start as a formally declared evil civilization (able to build evil bonus structures, research concepts of malice, etc.) then I guess something's funky with the game files. BUT... if you mean that you start leaning towards the good side of the spectrum, it's pretty easy to

Every time I have encountered a "+3" in this game it means "+3 %". The only exception seems to be things like speed, where +5 usually means +5 parsecs per week. So I would guess that research on the world in question will have a +3% bonus. Or alternatively, your entire civ may get a 3% bonus. Easy way to check : next time that dilemma comes up, pick the +3 choice. Go to stats and graphs and check your technology % bonus. Remember the number, then load up a save file from before th

I got the mega version of this event, I believe. It didn't cause me any problems -- BUT that was probably because the AI was in a bad position and couldn't really capitalize on the advantage. By the end of the game they had 456% economic bonus and bonuses just as large in diplomacy, influence, defense, etc. However, as I said, I didn't really notice much of an added challenge. Probably because it was a tiny map and due to various factors they only had two low-quality planets beyond t

Super Hiver ability ought to change the way that your moral/population relationship works. Different effects could be expected depending on exactly what you mean by a "hive," but societal communication ought to be much better in virtually every scenario. The Thalan, specifically, seem to be working for what they deem to be a "higher cause." This should inspire greater tolerance of the hardships caused by overpopulation in Super Hiver societies. Super breeder also ought to change the pop

Another suggestion: some of the super abilities in the game ought to cause changes even greater than what they do -- and they don't. Example: the Super Hiver ability ought to change the way that your moral/population relationship works. Different effects could be expected depending on exactly what you mean by a "hive," but societal communication ought to be much better in virtually every scenario. The Thalan, specifically, seem to be working for what they deem to be a "higher cause." This

Hope none of this is redundant. Also, don't misunderstand these thoughts and think I don't like the game. A continuous string of suggestions and constructive criticism starts to sound like badmouthing after a while ... Logistics should be partially based on the size of your civilization. A tiny civ that happens to have awesome research capabilities may be able to field as many capital ships as a large civilization with poor logistics technology, but a huge civ with decent technology

Hope none of this is redundant. Also, don't misunderstand these thoughts and think I don't like the game. A continuous string of suggestions and constructive criticism starts to sound like badmouthing after a while ... In GalCivIII tactical battles should be optional, not required. Sort of like Birth of the Federation, except if you choose to let the computer handle the battles the computer needs to be capable of making good decisions. Also, separating the control/don't control and
