Square root, that is harsh. At least it does something though-- I guess.

I am torn as to whether this weekend is the weekend to really tear into this. Is the tech bug dead then or should I wait it out a bit more?
A question from the newbie. Do all forms of defense give you defense? It seems like the tech trees are lasers, missiles, and ballistics with defense for each. So, would high missile defense still be useful and give some bonus against other weapon techs or do you need the right one (thus having to research all or just go all offense)?
I have held off so far, and am awaiting the patch so as to be able to fully enjoy it. Here is hoping for before the weekend. What are some examples of how the new techs change the races?
I recently got my GalCiv2 up and running again and was pondering getting TA and sinking my teeth into it this weekend. I have a few concerns based on posts here. They are: 1) Tech/ research cost bug 2) AI failing to put up much of a military fight (dogs with no teeth comment) 3) The "new" ground combat from screenshots looks to be a major turn off. I would have prefered a better "cheesy combat video" a la MOO2. Now, some people seem to paint thes
I know, I know, usually stardock is the savior of gaming. However... The short of it is my computer died so I am reinstalling my old programs. I originally purchased the physical retail GalCiv2 Gold edition (original plus Dark Avatar) and installed it then registered it online. From that point onward I just used stardock. So on my reinstall I just load up Stardock and it has my programs still tied to my account (good), but it says there is a problem with my Dark
I cannot check the registry path right now, but the demo is gone and the game seems to work (outside of the save game and everything after it). The version was the most recent patch .68 or something in the updater as I updated after installation. However, after the uninstall of the demo, GalCiv2 gold and DA both went down to 1.50x or something. I played it that way hearing of the fog of war bug during the whole game. After encountering the save issues on my second run I updated again
I am still really new and playing through my second game. I saved after several hours a few days ago and resumed my game where I had just finally broken free of pirates that had me (and everyone else) cornered. I then put my superior weapons to use and conqured a few planets then saved. So upon restarting I go a few turns and some cutscene for a plague shows up. The movie seems odd as it shows a ship flying over water rather than anything disease related. Shortly after I not
Okay, I am still very new. How do I "crank up the research"? I know I can buy more labs, but my pitiful 2 planets are full. I found an economy slider, does that work in addition to the number of labs I have? Is there a cost to raising the research bar and lowering manufacture if I am not building any ships or buildings? While I am at it, I saw a tax rate, I have not touched it should I raise or lower it, my citizens are already kinda unhappy (I am guessing from max pop with 1 farm a
Okay another question. Now that I found the "keep the stuff on when upgrading" option, if I want to upgrade, say, my basic colony ship and I just replace the engine with 2 better ones (miniaturization and engine tech comes along) can I save the ship and keep its name or do I have to rename it to not mess up the "core template"?
F ...Also I'd suggest if you play in DA to turn off Mega Events. They can be game changing in the extreme and something a new player shouldn't deal with in their first go . Personally now that I've played DA I wouldn't go back to DL for anything. But you may want to start with DL just so you can see what improve
So, I just got GalCiv2 Gold with Dark Avatar. I want to start my first few games to learn the game. However not sure where the best place is to start. I watched the tutorials. Now I am thinking I should play GalCiv2 (dread lord) campaign, or skip that and go to Dark Avatar Campaign to get all the "new" stuff, or skip both and just play some small or tiny maps. I did start one campaign and it seemed to have some smaller objectives and a cutscene or two which is cool. Anyway, opinion
AH, thanks, that should help my newbie moves a bit. Thanks.
Hello all. I am brand new playing my first game with Gal Civ2 gold. I am really struggling to get the hang of things, and as such, I try not to change default designs on ships much. However, when I research new stuff, I want to be able to put it on the ships. Yet when I click "upgrade" everything but the basic ship shap goes away and I have no idea how to get the ship how it was when I just wanted to put on an ion drive or something. Or even if I want more information on what the ship alrea
