Raknor Ignore the terrorists and they'll go away??? May I ask a question? What planet are you from, because it certainly has different laws of reality than my home, the earth. I did get a good chuckle out of your utopian fantasies though. For that I thank you.

don't know how many realise Australia took the greatest losses as a percentage of population than any other country. but to my own shame i forget if that was for the first or second world war? Mystic, I think that was WWI. Gallipoli wasn't it? I would also like to thank all military members, past and present, Some of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice. As for the whiny Canadian, get over it. If you want to do buisness with a company from another cou
I can use force, however, if I perceive a threat, but It must be appropriate and proportional to the threat. If you are an angry citizen and are getting in my face, will I perceive a potential threat? Of course. You might try to hit me. Does that give me justification to kill you? No. that's what we call OIC. Opportunity, Intent, Capability. All three have to be present to justify use of force. Like i thought the Iraq
I don't know if this is the right place for this post or not. But maybe some of you computer savvy people can help me out. I always play on a gig, abundant everything. the problem is when I get on in the game, every thing slows to a crawl. I mean, I can hit the end turn then go out and smoke a cigarette, get a cup of coffee, click through the channels on tv, then come back and my game might be ready for the next turn.I had 512 ram and I thought that might be the problem so I went out and install
Absolutely true. That's the same exact mistake we made in Vietnam. Wow, someone actually agreed with me..I'm shocked, Thanks OZ
Braddock – you asked for what struck me as wrong in Crichton’s discussion. There were several, but the one that caught my attention and set off my BS Detector was his discussion on Consensus Science. scientific knowledge is all about consensus So the earth DOES revolve around the Sun. This much must be obvious to everyone because it was the consensus once upon a time until one man dared
Peace through superior firepower often encourges less fighting, not more. Your right, it seems to be working fabulously in Iraq. Unfortunately for everyone involved, we're not using superior firepower in Iraq. We're meeting force with force, equal force. If anyone in Washington truly believed in the mantra peace through superior firepower, I raq would be a parking lot right now.
I tend to specialize planets, like you do. On my production worlds, i'll leave one space open. When I research to that special i'll put it on one of my production worlds. That way, i lose a little prodution but nothing i can't live with. Of course, i haven't worked my way up to the harder difficulties yet, I'm still on painful. This strategy might have to change the tougher the Ai gets.
Edit; on further thought, could you say the word 'assault' has similar characteristics as treason? Assault is always wrong unless proven otherwise in which case it is no longer called assault but probably self defence. So if somone is treasonous but proven to have just cause what is it called? Just a guess, but i think they might be called "revolutionaries". Does that sound right? Of course that would only work if they won, if they lost they would still
Marcus, Pretty much. Basically, there are certain ways we define something, such as treason. treason, in and of itself, is inherently wrong, as we define it. However, were the people who tried to assainate hitler during WWII wrong? Not in MY opinion, I happen to think that it was a tradgedy that they failed, however, they were still guilty of treason which by definition is wrong. That's what I'm trying to say in a nutshell, my feelings on the action being commited have no b
Cheats?? there's cheats?? Here I was thinking all the variables for the game would be pretty much enough to give you a challengeing game and a winnable one at the same time but now your going to throw in cheats also?? Holy moley...9 races, what like 16 difficulty levels, 8 variables on the galaxy set-up, 20 something race abilities to play with....just with that alone i'm looking at probably another 30 years of paying time to get trhough and now you guys are going to throw in cheats too?
I don't see the contradiction. I thought I said that my feelings on the rightness or wrongness doesn't make it right or wrong. Even if I think something is right, it doesn't necessarily make it so. I'm sorry if my wording created any confusion, English isn't exactly my strong suit, but seeing as how that is the launguage i was born and raised with I try to make due. Nevertheless, quite an interesting subject we're discussing here, wouldn't you agree?
Ahem,, ok then you believe you should be still living in an English colony? Really now, let me ask you then. Do you think the US should exist? Come on now people, well, let me just give a few examples... Was it wrong to drop the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Was it wrong to firebomb Dresden? Was it wrong to fight the Civil War? My personal feelings on the wrongness o
You really believe that people should not talk about what they've seen? That's a scary opinion. I find it hard to believe that you are able to take what I said out of context, while putting my whole statement in quotes.... On the contrary, TREASON is always wrong. Whistleblowing is not. If she saw instances of real torture then she needed to bring it to the attention of her superiors or if she didn't trust them,
why is that? This is a discussion thread, and probably a complete waste of time regardless of what is discussed! hehehe, we are here for entertainment primarily so i do not think it is possible to be counterproductive when there is nothing productive in the beggining?? Mystik, I'm really beginning to like you. even though we disagree on most issues so far, I still have to say that I like your attitude.
Treason isn't always morally wrong. In fact, that's one case where NOT to commit treason is morally wrong. On the contrary, TREASON is always wrong. Whistleblowing is not. If she saw instances of real torture then she needed to bring it to the attention of her superiors or if she didn't trust them, then the proper authorities outside the chain. I don't think "friend, or neighbor , or 2nd cousin, or whatever" would qualify as any of those, unless of cour
Treason is defined like this 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery . Just using the definition at the begining of the thread Mystic.
Honestly, I know a woman who was a guard at Guantanamo. It's as bad as the New York Times reports. There is real torture there. It's very interesting that you should state this in this particular thread talking about treason. You see, all the "guards" at GTMO had to sign non-disclosure agreements. So if she was in fact a guard, and did in fact tell you any thing that goes on inside the wire, then she would be guilty of treason. Interesting.
Personally i do not see how your remarks even if true for many people, actually means my remarks are wrong. Also i'm sure there would be plenty of people in civilian proffessions who would be insulted by your final remark. Mysticmind, It was certainly not my intention to insult anyone. I simply meant that when you are in a proffession such as the military or police or firefighting, when you go to work in the morning, you have the thought in th
Just a silly little question for you veteran's out there. How do I get my metaverse stuff to show up at the bottom of my posts? Do i have to be in an empire? thanks
I think most soldiers are just people with a job, trying to earn a living just the same as the rest of us. They are not seeking to die a glorious death for our freedom, they just wan't to pay the rent like all the rest of us do. Every soldier has to make a choice if the money they earn is worth the risk and that is precisely what all of us do, and that is the price at which they are lost. I beg to differ on this one. Anyone joining the military, and I'l
Hindsight is always 20/20 I don't know who said that but it certainly applies in this case. Now 4 years on, there are quite a few people saying what a horrible mistake it was to go into Iraq. Maybe my memory is just bad, or it didn't get a whole lot of coverage, but i don't remember this many people being against going in in 2003. It seemed like a good idea at the time to most people (myself excluded). Now, all we seem to hear is how bad an idea it was. Well, it probably was a ba
Nevertheless, the Civil War was a war about slavery. And it was even though many of those in power didn't want it to be. It was the driving force beyond anybody's ability to control it. Actually, it was about States Rights. Slavery was the underlying cause of the debate about States Rights, but it was about States Rights nonetheless. Those in the South thought that they should have more power than the Federal government. The Federal government didn't ag
colonies=people=money This cannot be overstated. The more colonies you have, the more you'll be able to do with research, and military and the like. without specifiying your games settings, this will be a shot in the dark but are you playing a high difficulty level with perhaps planets set on rare? this would explain no planets. I'm talking about DL, I haven't moved up to DA yet. maybe try to change your settings around when setting up your game. This might make it a more winnable game. Also
drrider, I'll have to reluctntly agree with you there. I did get severely off topic and started politicizing. Sorry about that. Well, in that case 5 most dangerous men alive as far as potential: President George W bush- Let's face it, we might not be the only superpower but Kim Il Jong- This guy is either very smart or very crazy and he does have the potential to do great harm Leadership of China- not a single man, but even if they never left their
