Vuk, there has been a secret meeting to decide what to do about the Arrakeen Emperium menace. All races have decided to go to war with Emporer vukasika. The war has expanded... [I know you are not surprised to see this: since you always kill minor races, you see these types of messages alot.]

In Diplomacy circles on the Altarian planet, they were thinking of just saying "We hate your guts and are going to kill you now" - or even more appropriately "%$&k you!", but instead they thought it would be much more inflammatory and aggravating to accuse you of something you are obviously not doing - and then go to war with you over it! They wanted to make it as horrible for you as possible. It worked, didn't it! They then beheaded your envoys that came to explain that the war was all a mistak

I started with DA, and it all made sense to me. If you battle multiple ships you see what is happening. The defense of the ships is the key - as well as the overall hit points. Take two ships with 50 Attack in one fleet, and then 10 ships with 20 Attack in another fleet, and then put them into combat. The 10 ship fleet will win (depending on total hit points). Once you add the defense factor, however, things change. Same scenario, but have two ships 50 Attack and 50 Defense, and then 10 ships wi

Multiplayer was, and always was, the strength of StarCraft. In fact, the playability of Battlenet (including the ease of setting up games) was key. Other great games that had difficult game set-up for internet multiplayer died because players were too frustrated. The other reason StarCraft was so popular is because of the variety of strategies that could be employed. I was a top player (and I really mean that) that used the Zerg exclusively. I pushed the envelope on creativity in gameplay and of

By the way - Piznit, you stated the obvious first (so I am not stealing your thunder). I just wanted to get more to the root of what is implied by the Diplomatic Victory as implemented.

Great discussion, but consider this: When you win a Diplomatic Victory, technically EVERYONE in the alliance wins! Remember the words in the victory condition?: Gang up on anyone not in your "group". So, what do we conclude from this: the simple fact that Alliances are indeed being treated differently for the Player compared to the other races (this is, after all, a single player game) - and the difference may be present possibly with good reason. Here is the explanation: When the Player allies

Since this thread is on Thoughts and Analysis of TA, I am aghast there has not been more mention of the change in the starbase tech tree that requires full research of defensive techs for the starbases themselves before allowing even the most minor of ship support techs for military starbases. I particularly enjoy looking at games as a large chessboard and fighting out military battles tactically. When doing so, the strategic and tactical advantage of military starbases many times swing the bala

One more word on the re-worked tech trees for starbases: 1) Mining starbases are now limited for most races to give a maximum of +14 bonus. 2) The new tech trees require researching the most advanced defenses for starbases before even allowing research of the most basic military support from a military starbase. This is absurb, and does effectively remove the use of military starbases (play test this! - I guarantee, you will never build another military starbase again!). Why even have military s

The tech tree for starbases using needs tweaking. Specifically, the primary issue arises because starbase support for starfleet battles mostly makes sense as an alternative to running up the tech tree on weapons for starships. By this, I mean that military starbase support for ships with minor weapons gives strategic advantages and can be used effectively, whereas starbase support for advanced ships has little effect (even a +12 ship combat advantage has little meaning with ships that have 100+

Before you have a melt-down (the game has been improving with upgrades - including filling in gaps - hah, I did notice - except for the 1.80e098 movement bug), the fact of the 1.80e098 patch caused "fleets" to falter in their autopilot movement, did not, in fact cause the AIs to become stupid. The 1.8f patch is needed only to fix the fleet autopilot bug. The problem that looked like bad AI was the symptom that whenever an AI attempted to move a fleet more than the movement allowance of the fleet

I see this type of message appearing often in the bug report: Debug Message: ***Attacker Yor Collective has courage bonus 0 ***Defender Krynn Consulate has courage bonus 0. *DEBUG ERROR: ***Ship graphics for fleet unit (Krynn Fleet 74) could not be created: Ship 0:Krynn Heavy Fighter Well, the graphics for many fleets in your log are definitely not being created. If I were on the troubleshooting staff, I would want to load your save game onto a fully loaded de

Military production produces ships. So all ships (including freighters and colony ships) will be considered military ships. All starbases are also considered to be military ships. If you have any ships not in your own circle of influence, and that includes planets in other spheres of influence (and also influence starbases), then the ships will be fair game for Peacekeepers. Under these conditions (and it has happened to me - and also with mega event pirates), winning the game requires limping a

Did you see in the documentation that ship design is often the difference between winning and losing? Your mention that you "got battleships" indicates that you are only taking the default ship designs (and I have played that way - and it is fun, but when you dynamically create ship designs to fit opponents strengths and weaknesses, the game transforms). If you click on the Shipyard, any military tech you have researched is available to you in a ship design. You will not have to wait for the def

Depending on the difficulty level, the computer AI acts differently. Pay attention to the +'s and -'s on the diplomacy screens. If you develop good diplomacy, then this will be a "+" for you. If you are militaristic (i.e. researching military), then this will be put as a "-" for you. This can be a problem if you get a "-" for being militaristic, but not building any military. You are then the weak baboon (who is always attacked first) with a strike against you. If you build powerful military, th

There is a vast difference in the computer AI depending on the difficulty level chosen for the game. The higher the difficulty level, the better the computer players are at dealing with any challenges. At low difficulty levels, the computer players can even be lobotomized, and continue to research Phasors VII rather than get a cure to that Syphilis problem they picked up on the Planet Thalas. <img

Two things: 1) The minor races add variety to gameplay. They do not have aggresive ai, but they cannot be subverted (otherwise they should all look like wrapped presents and be called "gift one" "gift two" etc.). They add to the trade aspect of the game as well, and so balance out the overall experience. If you research good and evil, these characteristics can be capitalized on. Let's face it, if you are militaristic, then the minor races can become tasty snacks that assist in your domination of

Yes. Everyone is having this problem, and the error log is exactly as posted in this thread. Support does not need to have us all repeat exactly the same thing - all they have to do is attempt to download heightmaps themselves.

I didn't see where else to post this, but I am impressed! I saw this game, and thought I was buying an old piece of software, not realizing it had just been released... It has been many years since I found a game soooo addicting. This is an incredible piece of work, gentlemen! If Sins of a Solar Empire plays anything like this via multiplayer, then I will be chained to my computer... A+ This games is 10 stars on a scale of 1 to 5.
