Anyone with nVidia or other types of graphics cards can look at it? Seriously takes 10 seconds to see. I can look into getting this fixed possibly if I know the result...

Can anyone with a nVidia or other graphics card system take a sec and test if you see scroll lag while alt+tabbed out of the game (from the Galactic View)? It would be greatly appreciated if you could and it would only take a few seconds to do the test. Thanks, Peter
I wrote this extra post with a potential fix I thought I found, but now doing further testing I found it is not really a fix at all, it only appeared to help because I had not yet gotten to the 'Galaxy View' - If you are at Research/Planet which the game takes you to on first load, you can alt+tab out with no performance problems, it loads faster on return and doesn't lag when you alt+tab out. But if you alt+tab from these or any other screen in the game after you have seen Galaxy View then you
That's fine. I don't mind the time to load, at all. I did a check now and when I scroll through pages in IE, such as this one, my quickly rises to 50% or more and stays there until I stop scrolling and then goes down to 3-5%. It seems the CPU is being used entirely for graphics rather than the GPU. This sort of hardware emulation is what seems to be causing the severe lag in scrolling and other graphics intensive tasks. I have 1 GB free out of my 2GB of RAM at this point, scrolling, even just wi
Does anybody have any other suggestions or ideas? Is there anyone out there with the same video card who is not having this sort of problem? Thanks, Peter
Thanks for replying. Ya I agree, it seems quite odd to me now. At first I just thought it was normal, since the game was running in the back, but my CPU usuage goes down and the fan gets quieter...everything else acts as if it's free and fine, with the game safely away in the RAM and not taking any other system resources. But the video is extremely laggy, worse than the 400Mhz PII w/128mb of RAM and a 32mb video card that I built for my father a few years ago. I've got a 2 GB of DDR 66
Hello, This is just a question, not really a bug (unless I'm the only one). Does your computer, specifically in terms of graphics, act very slugishly when the game is minimized through Alt+Tab? Especially the graphics, everything else seems normal, but when scrolling through any website especially it is very laggy and not smooth at all. This might be expected from newer games I'm not sure, I've only noticed it with GalCiv2...but I don't have the game open in the foreground so
Thanks very much for making this. I was told this wouldn't work with GC2 Gold because that's 1.5 by default and this is only 1.4 compatible. Are there any plans to make it work with 1.5 anytime soon? Thanks again, Peter
Damn, I didn't expect it would be so restrictive. I guess I'll just keep Gal Civ II for now and forget about getting the Gold Edition. They have updates for that mod, but not to 1.5 yet...they are still celebrating getting it to work with 1.4 in December. I'm not sure what sorts of mods I'll want to try, not being able to use any that were released prior to 1.5 is a real drawback Thanks for expla
1.5? I thought that was the version just for DA. Wouldn't I be running the original GalCiv2 in 1.4? I'd like to use some of the mods - one is just for DA, but the other (the Star Trek one) says it requires 1.4. Does this mean with a Gold Edition install I wouldn't be able to run those mods? Thanks, Peter
Ok, thanks for the reply. So they are accessible by seperate icons on the desktop then, with no overlap in terms of features? Oh and is the Gold edition version of DL 1.4 and CE? How much of a size difference is there between when GC2 is installed and DA as well? Thanks, Peter
Hi all, I'm a noob - I've been reading up on things, but I just wanted to confirm that if I have the Gold Edition set, can I install GalCiv2 just like I did from the original GalCiv2 CDs? So I can use all the GalCiv2 mods and things without having to use any of the features of DA (and if possible not have any of the extra DA files, playing w/a laptop and am low on space). Is that possible? I have GalCiv2 now and a friend of me wants it so I was thinking I'd give him my original CD and
Oof, that sucks. Thanks kyro for replying, I guess this isn't for me then. Glad I didn't try it. Maybe I will someday, was really looking forward to it now. Wish it said somewhere more clearly that it was DA only before I got all my hopes up, I'm such a noob... Peter
Would this work with Dread Lords? I've been playing a game for the past week and just got a Tech victory, so I was hoping to install this and up the AI skill a few notches for my next game. I'll get to DA in a few months or so, once I get bored of the original and want to freshen things up more. But at this point is it possible to install this eye candy or do I have to wait for then? I was going to try installing it, but all the questions about whether its compatible with DA and the fac
Hi, In DL when I click on the Foreign Relations Report, it will say that about half the time. If I click it again it goes away, click again it comes back. I noticed this for both the Arceans and the Drengins. There may be other things that seem to disappear, but this is the one I noticed right away and can see it very consistently after a click or two. Thanks, Peter
Hi, I'm pretty new to GalCiv2, I noticed this today that the Acheans were willing to trade more for Chaff than Smart Chaff. It say I was foolish for giving them the preceeding tech when I put Smart Chaff then Chaff, but if it was just Chaff it was a done deal. Peter
I found the cultural victory to be way too easy lol. It was my first game to get past about 2 years of the game and I had 87% of the entire map under my influence when the game ended. No one ever even thought of firing a shot. 6 other civs + 1 minor. I was amazed that during that game the AIs started giving me stuff lol. There was never a war in the entire game between anyone, though there were rumours the minor was paying off the Tolians to leave them alone... This was at the 'Normal'
Hi all, I was just wondering if there were any sort of Audio Mods to add audio somewhere, in GNN or when exiting the game or constructing something. I'm sort of thinking like SMAC (Alpha Centauri) - everytime I exit the game I can just hear it saying 'Don't go, the drones need you...they look up to you' . Or something to say 'Construction Complete'... I dunno just some more audio to add to the l
Yes, please help...I'd like to try this out but I can't seem to find it... Cat
Ok thanks - 10 minimum for Abundant, and 10 on Common - sounds good. So if I end up with more of those only 3-4 planets on my side of the galaxy games, CTRL+N is my next move Thanks for you help , Peter
On Common though? I hate using abundant because really its overkill. I only did it because Common was giving me nothing lol. How many planets should I colonize on Common on Medium ? Thanks, Peter
I say after researching a certain technology, all the civs should be able to build one, and just one, Genesis Torpedo (a working one, none of that 'protomatter' garbage ). They can then use it to change whatever planet that choose and it has a random value to how much usable land it will have (but 5+ to make it worth the trouble). This could also be a Galactic Achievement of some kind or something, and yo
With Common on Medium I searched half the map and found only 2 habitable planets, Mars and Weber II. I also had a bunch of othergames where I found a maximum of 3 planets anywhere near me outside my system. Abundant I get planets coming out of my ears... Can you play a good game with only 3 or 4 5-12 level planets with 6 races on a map with Common set? Or am I getting screwed and all the AIs have a group of 20+ good planets on some corner of the map? Peter
Have to say, the heuristics of the comp at the beginner level...it's just too stupid lol. It just values distance and takes the planets closest to it, even if that means taking a class 4 when I class 17 was 1 tile away. What difficulty level do you have to set it where it doesn't do such stupid things but can still be beaten by a lucky rook? Thnx, Peter
Good to hear : ) - I would do that a good 3 or 4 times in Civ4 b4 I'd get a good game going, and I'd look for a good 400+ pop system in MOO 2.5 b4 I'd really get into it. It took me 5 games to get to a map I felt I could play so I was wondering if they were all like that lol... guess the enemy might be screwed from the start no matter how smart it is . Too bad there's no Regenerate Map button like Civ4 bu
