A few years ago I purchased GalCiv and GC2. I played them both and enjoyed them, but I quickly became bored with them. I've not played now for years. It took me a while, but I soon figured out why; There just aren't enough strategic decisions to be made with the ship building / combat strategy. Every battle is simply a game of rock/paper/scizzors. (Lasers, misiles, cannons) Wouldn't it be nice if we had more variet

I had the exact same problem. I saved, then loaded a DIFFERENT save where the turn button was active, then loaded the save I just made. This seemed to 'clear' whatever was holding up the turn button. On one occasion I found several surey ships trying to scount the same anomoly which seemed to have a constructor in the same space. This seemed to be the cause of the problem. On another it was combat related but I'm not sure what caused it. <a href="https://www.stardock.com/products/

I cannot seem to uninstall my Galfciv 2 games. I don't see them listed under windows add/remove programs and when I right-click in stardock and select 'uninstall' it says I don't have administration rights. ?!?!?!?

This is the error I get trying to install the latest patch; "there was an error installing twilight of the arnor (Expansion Pack) for the galactic ciilizations II. The following error occurred: move: c:\program files\stardock\total gaming\galciv2\twilight\gc2twilightofthearnor.exe 0| access is denied | 01/09/2008 16:21 result: Installation failed (29)" It looks like there is more text just below the window, but I cannt read it nor expand the error

Once a human player becomes the most powerful race there is no stopping him. It would be nice to get knocked off that pedestal... hard. Be it the other races ganging up on me, a super tech, or whatever. Also - I'd like to be able to view 'replays' of some of the games on the metaverse. I want to know how other players are achieving some of their wins/scores. <img src="http://images.stardock.c

I wonder if anyone who can have an impact reads this... Whatever. If I were to get a 'wish' it would be fore more ship mods. Not just weapon upgrades but things like - targeting computers (increases weapons damage), innertial stabalizers (make targeting ship harder reducing all damage), structural integrity field (increases hit points), weapon blossom (doubles output of weapons on first shot but then weapons are inactive for rest of battle), stealth field (ships invisible or detectable only

I frankly get annoyed if there is a race with the same color as me. Maybe there could be a subset of colors for player races which is distinct from standard races? Maybe allow the player to change his color mid-game in case there is a neighboring race of the same color? I also would like it if the tech tree included more specific information about weapons and defense - like the numerial value of damage/protection. It would also be nice if there were an 'undo' button for those occasions w

I still think early invasions are prudent. First - simple realism. Second - it does not have to cost a whole lot to invade a planet. An invasion ship could cost less than a colonization ship considering there is no need for colony equipment (liberate the enemy equipment!) It also adds risk to over-reaching your colony range. No better way to get hozed early-game than to find the enemy has colonized everything around you (no matter how far from their HW it is) and you have to research a lon

I noticed that one of the reasons why different-classed planets were introduced was to reduce the benefit or emphasis on early-game colony spamming. I have another suggestion - introduce planetary invasion MUCH earlier in the gameplay. This would SEVERELY limit colony spamming since early-game there would be little resources to defend over reaching colonial development - which sorta adds some realism also. Maybe cut the range of early ships in half and colony and troop ships

that is the whole point of customizing ships - so you can make them specialize in particular tasks. Maybe make a ship with limited weapons but very long range - hit the weeakly defended colonies. Or make one that specializes in speed - move from one colony to another faster than defenders can. Or maybe make one with very long range weapons - bit limited armorment (to make room for the range extenders) etc etc. <a href="https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/" title="Posted via S

I have been having fun w CalCiv2 but I am disappointed with the space-combat portion. Many modern strategy sims seem to skimp on combat strategy and default to a rock-paper-scissors approach. I always liked the MOO (original) approach to space combat. Different weapon technologies had different advantages - like missiles being almost unlimited range but limited damage and speed - beams having limited range - or (for a cost of money and space) longer range. The ability of mass drive

There were no starbases by the alterian world and it had about half research and half factory structures. They had only three planets. With my research sliders and industrial sliders maxed I couldn't break 200 - and I had a huge economy - tons of money going to treasury. I even had an economic starbase nearby my tech capital. What am I doing wrong? <img src="http://images.stardock.com/sd/SDC24

25% bonis is one thing, but 500% is a bit ridiculous... Even on Godlike setting. THere must be something I'm missing...

So I'm playing a game with Alterian setting on Godlick. After an extended war Icomtrol nearly all of the galaxy and the Alterians just two stars/planets. I notice that their tech level is at least as high as mine (and keeping up) and that their fleets are modern and large. I crank up my spying to see how this is possible. When I reach advanced I take a look at Alteria and see that their research is over 700! Their Military is over 200! They have industrial centers and invention matrix -
