Alright, currently I'm playing a scenario called Dread Lords on Parade, on a gigantic map. I start off with 9 races, all on intelligent. I got quite a good number of worlds in the initial colony rush (about 29 planets). And I took your advice earlier about specializing in weapons, and other things necessary for running an empire. Well, after a while, I ran into Dread Lords, but at first they were thankfully very far away. but it didn't stay that way for very long. At this point in the game, they

Thanks for the advice guys I really appreciate it. I tend to like either beams or mass drivers so I'll focus on that .
Though I now have some experience with this game (e.g. I can beat the comp at both normal and challenging), I still have trouble with developing my military effectively. Sometimes I fall dangerously behind, other times I develop some weapons but sometimes they aren't as effective as they should be. Also, there are a bunch of weapons to choose from and I'm still uncertain if I should specialize or try to balance them out. My current strategy is to have one primary set of weapons and a secondary s
It depends on the type of game that I play. If I'm evil, I would usually name my planets after dictators or evil empires of the past (e.g. Khan, Nero, (name of leader)grad, Gulag). If I am good, I usually name them after places and deities from Greek or Hindu mythology/people (e.g. Aurora, Dharma, Rhea). If I'm neutral, I usually name them after places/people of modern times (e.g. New Singapore, Dyson, Kaku). I usually try to have the name fit the type of world i.e. if I'm evil and I located a w
Who here plays Battlefield 2142?
I usually like to play on large maps, but not gigantic. I usually play on a large map with all 10 races, and I will usually set habitable world count to either common or occasional, and sometimes I do it without tech trading. This setting usually makes for competitive games, though if you have it on occasional I notice that only 2 or 3 "superstates" emerge and the others kinda become a little bit like minor races. Disabling tech trading really makes the game that much harder and more interesting
There are alot of strategies you can use to achieve victory in this game. Its not quite like other games in which there is only one way to win. Just pick a strategy that works for you and stick with it. You could win by research, military, or by creating alliances, or even by having your cultural influence large enough to take over the map. If your a beginner, start at the easier levels such as below "normal" intelligence. I'm still trying to learn how to play the game myself and so I can't real
no, I think ctrl-n means new map. This is used when you're not happy with your current starting position and you want to start over .
I would make an evil civ, one in which my citizens are terrified all the time. My military would be top of the line, with the most destructive weapons in the universe. It would probably be a mix of the Borg and the Zerg.
They also attack in groups too, so the damage adds up
I know it won't have the same amount of firepower, but the missiles they carry can still do alot of damage, especially if it hits something critical.
Yeah, I don't think its rock paper scissors at all. However, I do agree that the weapon/defense systems need a little improvement. I kinda think that it shouldn't matter what size ship you use for combat; only the weapon and defense should matter. Afterall, a small jet fighter can deal a huge amount of damage to a big ship like aircraft carriers, so why can't it be the same here.
I'm also new to the game, but I've been able to get into it quite easily. If you've played TBS before, your probably better of playing at a difficuly of at least Normal in this game for first timers, the AI is very tough after bright and intelligent levels. Also, you don't have to go for military. You can go for influence by setting up a bunch of starbases. Or diplomacy, by trying to be friends with races of your own ethical alignment. But, if you want a good challange, set everyone to either no
1. What was the biggest, bloodiest, hardest, and most costly war anyone ever had to deal with in a game? 2. What weapons, defenses, and tactics were involved? 3. Was there ever a time when all the races were at war with each other, because I had that happen to me and it put me in a pretty precarious situation especially since I tend to pursue a peaceful cultural domination
thanks for your help. To be honest, I never expected the computer opponents to be this smart, I play Civ 4 and its easy to find that one weakness, but not in this game . But I have to say I'm not doing so badly for my first try. I'll take your advice and see if I can find some way to turn this around... Again, thanks!
Well, I guess I didn't explain the whole situation. I kinda don't want to make peace because if I do, then the Torians will squash a race that I trade, and get more than 1/3 of my profits, with. They only have two worlds at this point and unlike me, they don't have much of a fleet left to defend those worlds. However, they have successfully conquered 5 out of 13 of my worlds including my homeworld. And its very difficult to try to reinforce my fleets in those last two worlds of my trading partne
Hey I'm new to this and I'm being overrun by a horde of warships I'm having a hard time holding against. I'm the human race and I'm being overrun by a bunch of Torians. You see, my weapons aren't doing the optimal amount of damage to their ships. I still got some worlds left, and one of them is pumping out warships, but I don't know how much longer I can withstand. And I'm having a hard time getting other races to ally me. Any ideas on how to fend them off?
