Very well done BinaryAlgorithm, you have saved the day. No doubt Stardock will be posting you a cheque forthwith.

I am not a computer expert. But I do enjoy tinkering. I was experiencing a few problems running DA on a laptop. The laptop's Nvidia 7800GTX (256 meg) card, 2 gigs of memory, and 2.26 ghz PentiumM process are not that old (yet). The first thing I did was update the video driver. I ended up purchasing driver cleaner pro for $10, but Kryo wrote there was a freebie version of software floating
I must say you are a placid lot, any other game with this problem, going on for so long and the forum would be positively blue.
debug.err log have been posted by the millions, every conceivable page file config has been tried and yet the problem persists. Seems the only way to play this game is by downgrading your computer. I wouldn't call what I have said as insulting the devs, I'm just having a dig at their work and want to know what they are doing about it. They can't tell me they are putting every waking hour into tracking down this leak when they are constantly adding stuff and selling expansions. This proble
lol, bug free? You must be new to PC gaming, Crosswire. Either that or you're a glutton for disappointment because there's practically no such thing as a bug-free release. Heck, take some comfort from the fact that this game was technically "finished" a long time ago, and they've been improving it for free all this time. Yeah, I'm getting random crashes too, albeit it's not from out-of-memory errors. At least that's not what it's
This is what you call a absolute disgrace. If your going to write a game, first you should make sure you are competent enough to finish the project (bug free). All forward motion on this game should stop until they have tracked down and squashed this memory leak. I don't think Ill be buying another game of these jokers.
STARDOCK why haven't you fixed this problem, and why can't you fix this problem, it has been a main bug in your lose code now from day 1. If you do not possess the talent to repair your own very messy code then why will you not seek professional help to do it for you. Carrying on the way you are by ignoring this very large bug will only result in the rapid reduction of your reputation and customer confedence and a dirty great black hole in your bank account.
Everyone who had this issue, please try the 1.6 beta 5 update now on SDC. What was it you changed in beta 5 to address the issue, it would be nice to know what has plagued GC2 for all this time, that is if it has cured the problem.
You know they say about 5% of people are having memory issues, I think they have this wrong and it's a lot more, just in my small clan 2 friends have the same problem.
Yes, but is the memory leak fixed? Please say yes so I can at last buy this game.
I'm always on the look out for a good read, keep them coming, I'm adding them to my list to look out for.
Why do we need the latest graphics card drivers for a poxy 2D game, I can play Doom3,far cry, supreme commander, well, most games on graphics drivers 2 years old.
Yep, Im a little wissed at not being able to play these games due to bad code that's been with GC2 from birth and gone though a expansion and a trillion updates yet that same darn memory leak is still with us and goes round and round and round and, well you know what I mean, actually I'm a bit of a expert when it comes to this bug, mainly because of all the fixes and 3rd party pogs I tried, yet to no avail. 2 of the main areas when this bug rears it ugly head are on saves/auto saves and random e
If you're getting the out of memory bug with gigantic galaxies, try turning down the frequency of random planet surfaces. I suspect that the planets are just using way too much memory rather than the game is actually leaking anything. The last time we had this problem, one of the major issues was an increase in the number of planets in a galaxy. Hehe, that's funny, if this is the problem then why have f
If they ever get this fixed, can someone give me a shout, because I would dearly like to buy and play DA. Or maybe Cari would PM me if/when she kills this bug dead with a big stick, it has to be truly dead though unconscious or still wriggling don't count.
I don't think I have the heart to start again only for it to bomb on me after a week of play, all games have bugs I know, but there are bugs you can avoid, bugs you can ignore, bugs that actually add to the game play but then there are bugs that are game killers and this is one of the latter bugs you can't ignore a bug that ends the game. Ill get myself a copy of that FreeRAM XP, might come in handy. I have Medieval 2 and the bugs in that are the type you can ignore.
I tried the cachmanXP remedy with GC2, it seemed okay for a while then went back to crashing out of memory, so all it did was give me a small reprieve. In fact I tried every trick in the book in a attempt to get to finish one game which I never did, yes, I stared a new game so many times but never finished one.
Yer, no game is perfect, but it should run without crashing , this is a necessity not a option. People with 512 meg memory are never experiencing the memory crash but those with 2 gig or more are, I would call this a missive bug, that big it lives in a hanger, but as yet SD can't get the time to fix. Somebody I quote, said the next GC game should be called Galactic Civ II The bug fest.
By the sound of it I was right to hold of buying DA, I waited because I wanted to make sure they had fixed it since GC2 where I suffered out of memory errors on huge/large maps and finally gave up and shelved the game. But looking here GA has more bugs than Silent hunter 4.
The problem here is that Stardock wont accept that they have buggy code causing this and like Ive said earlier this problem has been round since the first GC2, all they do is say only a small % of people are having these problems, and then go on adding bells and whistles instead of fixing the bugs.
Seems Stardock never really fixed this, they tried with GCII but couldent seem to crack it, very frustrating when your machine has loads of memory and others with little memory have no problems, shows there is a real big problem somewhere in the code which I'm very surprised hasent been fixed yet. Anyway it ruined GCII for me even though I loved the game. And yes it is so stupid to delete or write over your old save when saving especially when the devs know this ruins the game for many.
Ha har, so the memory leak is still present, I use to get it all the time in GC2, so it looks like I wont be buying DA after all.
Before I buy DA, can anyone tell me is the memory leak still present? This was the spoiler of the game for me with GC2, as I would play the huge map in skirmish, but when I got well into the game it would crash repeatedly and save game would become corrupt.
Thanks for the response. As for multiply, online,I think would be a utter waste of time, but multiply on lan only, would be great, that way if your opponent tried to quit out just because they where losing, you could go into the next room where they where and smash their face in. Well I think it deserves game of the year for the following reasons... 1 It's 100% addictive 2 For the hours entertainment it works out cheaper than a roast nat's widge. 3 Excellent support with th
Anyone know how you go about voting Gal Civ II for game of the year or can't 'Joe Public ' vote and its down to a bunch of dead-ed judge's.
