Might be part of the game, but I got a 'random event' similar to finding an ancient vessel Ranger class, this event was finding a 'Precurser Corvette', however I was given close to 100 of these small hull vessels. I didn't note a plural on the event pop up, so I am guessing this was a bug, though if you get more of these corvettes based on how badly you are losing, that could explain the large number too.
