Personally, I would like to have gigantic ship. But it should be possible to make only one. That would be mothership. make it either really expensive, or unique. pride of civilization, a flagship.

the only thing I don't like about starbases is that you don't have any visual cue how far it's construction is, after you placed certain number of modules. if a number was displayed above starbases showing how many modules you can add, that would be so much helpful
if we actually get to design ships that will fight in 3D space... that would add a lot of challenge. now this would be a heaven. imagine this: you position your fleet, order it to go stealth (minimum power usage, passive sensors only) and then on the inertia alone hit the enemy shipyard facilites from above or below, just where that sensor/weapon blindspot is. or you bring out your heavy guns... only to realize too late that by putting them on a fixed position, rather then mount, you have a
this would be splendid idea coupled with 3d space. not much use in having manouverable ship when it get blocked by a behemoth and has to go around it instead over or beneath it. also, you'd have to monitor condition of each ship, that would track what's destroyed, which vector you opened, where's the enemy vulnerable. add directional shielding and armor, lot of combat support thingies and you have combat simulator where tactis would really come to play. I would buy such a game rega
I got hooked up easily on gc2. but I find it rather pointless to call something space strategy, when it's 2d. that's not space, we could easily put this on a map of a planet and call it waterworld civilizations. vertical axis is not an option here. it's pointles to design your ships with 3d space in mind where in fact no such space exists. as for galaxy being "flat" it's still lightyears flat. plenty for vertical action. as for free travel, 3d is the essence of free travel. sure it
