Is there a straightforward way to use IconDeveloper to replace an icon in a large file, e.g. shell32.dll, with a different one? I tried for quite a while and couldn't do it. I was working with a file on my desktop, not trying to directly edit a system file. Thanks very much for some info on this. Buck
I don't think any package of icons or any icon software will customize all the icons in Windows. In my case, nothing I've tried except manually changing the icons in shell32.dll will change the generic folder icons in "Open" and "Save" dialog boxes. And what about the small icons in the common tasks pane? Again, manually changing them is the only way I've found to do it. But it's not so easy to make changes to shell32.dll. It's a protected Windows folder, and Windows will change it back muc
I wonder if one of you computer geniuses can answer this one: How can I change the icons for the shortcuts to individual users' Documents folders in the My Computer window under "Files Stored on this Computer"? Icon Packager changes them to the package's generic folder icon, which is the standard Windows way of displaying them, but I think the icon should be the Documents icon, and I've never found any way of changing them individually. I just recently downloaded the shareware version of IconX. I can't see how I can use it. It changes about a quarter of my desktop icons to one generic icon--white square with a blue bar at the top. It enlarges them and moves them all to the left side of the screen. I'd like to have some of the effects IconX offers but I want the actual icons and their position on the screen to remain unchanged. I can't see any settings within IconX to fix this--am I missing something obvious? Buck
I have the shareware version 1.10 and it does have a button for Run at Startup. The program doesn't protest when I select it, but I haven't actually tried a reboot to see if it works. However, when I make certain changes I get a prompt that says no changes will be saved in the shareware version, so it's pretty useless as it is.
A quick search of this forum turned up nothing on this. Does anyone know how to change the icon for a generic folder in dialog boxes, such as "Open"? I've tried two other software programs and neither they nor IconPackager change these icons. Am I missing something obvious here? Thanks for any help. Buck
I used SkinStudio (I'm a newbie) to edit one of the skins that came with With WindowBlinds (Aura by Mike Bryant). I wanted to keep my desktop color but the skin kept changing it. In SkinStudio I went to Miscellaneous > Colors > Miscellaneous > Background - Desktop and changed the color numbers to 0 128 128. After saving the change and reapplying the skin, the desktop color was noticeably darker. Desktop Properties showed the color as 0 108 108. I didn't want to spend time messing around wit
There are some older posts that deal with the problem of desktop background color. Unchecking "Use any wallpaper supplied" doesn't help--it does control the picture used but not the background. The only way some previous posters, and I, have found to fix it is to edit the skin in SkinStudio. Miscellaneous > Colors, then under Attribute on the right side Miscellaneous > Background - Desktop and change the color value to what you want. Buck
I tried using a skin called Copper Deck II. It is gorgeous but most of the backgrounds, such as in the drop down menus from the main menu bar and the Start Menu/All Programs are such a dark green color that the black text in the menu is almost unreadable. I downloaded the trial version of SkinStudio thinking it would be an easy thing to find the controls for the font color and change them from black to white. I added the two programs to the exclusion list. This fixed Custom Photo 6, but not Photo House 5. ???? Any ideas, anyone?
Apparently WindowBlinds is prone to incompatibility. My machine is unable to open both Corel Custom Photo 6 and Corel Photo House 5. With a skin loaded, both programs show their splash screen for less than a second, then quit. Unloading WindowBlinds fixes the problem. Buck
