As a note for those that are booting up TotA, be aware that there are some flaws in the AI (well, not so much AI behavior) as serious tech tree issues, as some of the races tech trees lack connecting technologies (either cutting them off from later game techs, or severely hampering their growth potential. I know the Korath, Drengin, Yor, and I think Thalan (or maybe it was Iconians) definitely suffer from this. However, some other races (Krynn, Torian, and Terrans) have much fewer

It's actually rather costly (both in people and ships) to physically invade worlds. The "top" players have said that Diplomacy beats all in GalCiv II; what you REALLY want is to have a Military Rating and diplomatic strength so much higher than your opponent that they literally just sign over their worlds to you for peace. No muss, no fuss.

Think of the game in three stages: Stage One: Expand, expand, expand. Research will be slow here, grab the quick techs that'll help "right now" (like Ion Engines) but go more with Diplomacy. Other races are pretty easy to trade with early on before any one has a military. Once military strength gets put into play, it becomes a a matter of "Who has the bigger X" game to get techs traded. Stage Two: It's the Economy, stupid! Ok, you

Remove Universal Translator from their tech tree, and turn off Tech Trading in the setup screen. Be aware that you are *severely* handicapping a Race though as they will not be able to engage in Trade, Research/Economic Treaties, Peace Treaties (an important issue), getting others to declare War, etc etc. You may be better off altering a Minor Race (there's a modding guide floating around on here) as they don't engage in any major Diplomatic issues, at le

Evil Alignment wins out in Dark Avatar, due to a bugged MCC granting a 100% economic bonus. In Twilight/Ultimate version, Neutral is about on par with, if not slightly better than, Evil: the reduced Buy Now cost, instant terraforming, and most importantly, Morale bonus {higher morale means you can have a higher tax rate, which means more income} makes it very competitive. Good Alignment is very strong in a tiny/small map where you don't have many colonies.

Hey KP or anyone else; I have a question: I'd like to fire up some GCII in my free time here, but a new computer and two new OS's later, I don't have GCII installed anywhere anymore. Now, this used to be an easy fix cuz I would just fire up Impulse and download it. But isn't Impulse gone now? Anyone know how I can go about downloading the game again? Thanks! ~Silver

Well Diablo III was a fun side track for me - I still randomly hear: "By all that is holy, do you SEE that creature over there?!", "GLORIOUS!" and "Pick it up, pick it up!" {Templar and Covetous, what great characters} in my head from time to time. Picked up Civ 5 (and the expansion) which has been quite fun {Greeks and Austria ftw} Still lots of WoW, waiting patiently for the next expansion. And then...a teaser from Frogboy - "but it is not the end." G

haha, hi Neilo. Yeah - I got to go to BlizzCon in Anaheim, CA (was a total blast) back in October and being the Blizzard fanboy that I am, signed up for the WoW Annual Pass - I mean sure it was a year long commitment to WoW, but I got a free D3 out of it so 'shrug'. as long as im having fun playing, its all that matters.

not much KP, same old stuff - work and more work; back in Michigan for a while before I get to move *back* to Indiana in December lol. other than that, lots of World of Warcraft, Starcraft II, and soon Diablo III. And there's only thing that needs to be said SaintMina: " So, Lone Star, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb. "

Dropping by, saying "hello", and returning back to the Twisting Nether from whence I came. Until GC3 friends (because I seem to recall that KP and I have a Klingon Empire to get up and running :-p ) -Silver-

Hey KP; congrats on all of those things! About to enjoy my last year in Indiana before moving....somewhere. Destination undetermined as of yet. Other than that, tbh, not much. Work and school. In that order :-p

every once in a great while I sneak into these forums and cross my fingers that maybe *this* time, beyond all reason or hope, that all the medals finally start working... that, and I keep my ear to the ground for any news as to a GC III :-) -Silver-

Sect is a bit limiting; makes them seem "small". Take the order and strong belief system of a sect, and put it to a much grander scale like in real world analogy the Catholic Church. and even then, that doesn't really do the Krynn justice. They are a numerous and varied people that have an unwavering singular belief.

The Krynn are not a single species but a number of sentient species that developed on their homeworld nearly simultaneously. Unlike most species that have known civil strife, bloodshed, and chaos, the Krynn rallied around a singular vision for the Universe. Being actually a "culture" more so than any single species, it allows any race to be a member of the Krynn (which explains their high espionage skills, the Drengin next to you can actually follow the Krynniac principles).

Short answer: yes; I remember the Devs telling us that if/when you made a custom ship tree you had to include the 3 basic designs or you wouldn't start with any ships. So it is possible, I just wish I could remember where everything is in the xml for you. Its been 2-3 years now since I did any modding for GCII so I can't really give you any more help than that. Be aware/careful with it though, you could unintentionally gimp the AI; especially since they rarely, if ever, build

yeah, i wouldnt figure there would be much going on nowadays in the MV. I tried starting a game today as the Yor, though I think i need to turn down the difficulty, Suicidal is a bit much after 2 years. Terrans are completely dominating and I can pretty much see the writing on the wall already :-p. My main is a Feral (Bear) Night Elf Druid, though I leveled to 80 as Tauren (my favorite race). Only had to faction change because my RL circle (which all play) wanted
