Formula for carriers that would hopefully minimize large-scale changes to game design: 1) Have a special "hangar module" that allows a ship to "carry" one or more other ships. The basic one would be a 18-space module permitting the carriage of one (1) tiny-hulled ship (module size must NOT scale with carrier hull-size). Later ones could allow "small" hulls ,"mini" hull, or more than one hull at a time for a slight space savings: * "carried" ships cost -1 logistic point (e.g., 1

IIRC there is one, but it is disabled for some reason. Just look through GC2Types.xml and uncomment it (though you can only do that for non-meta games). Has this been properly reported as a bug?
Anyway if there is advanced fusion engines then you can create enough energy to create matter or to change elements. If that were the case, then starports would be unneccessary... you could just spawn new ships from an older one. It is a minor point... there isn't much point in arguing about the "realism" of technologies we don't ev
all that post just for asking how to rename a ship? No, so that you can upload a list of names and have the program name your ships automatically. Sorry for the confusion! Jon
I'm not sure it is possible to rename ships... I haven't found the command yet, but I'm new to the game. If it isn't there, that would be really cool. Also, it would be great if we could set up (or load in) thematic lists of ship names that could be used for each class. For example, I design a cruiser, I assign the lead ship to be named Cleveland, and all subsequent ships to draw sequentially (other option is random) from my "American Cities"-theme list, with an auto-prefix of "U.S.S."
I'd really like to see a green light for ship's jewelry. I'd like to do the left wing red light/ right wing green light thing, but I can't. Jon
I would like to see the code changed so that you could only scrap a ship for money when it is in orbit over a planet with a starport. Same with upgrades. It just seems very reasonable to allow ships to magically change to a new type of ship without any outside assistance. Or, for that matter, allowing them to fold up into scrap metal, then ship themselves, and their crew, back to a planet. Jon
