It really doesn't matter what SD devotes it's resources to if multiplayer isn't added. I purchased GC2 long ago with the hope that it would support multiplayer in the first patch. GC2 has been sitting "on the shelf" unplayed since then... I'm still waiting. GC2 is a very good game, I'd love to play it... could we please have multiplayer so it's worth playing? (and yes, I'm still more than willing to pay significantly for a good implementation with multiplaye

It's not more fun to play against other humans, but it is a lot more fun to play with other humans. GalCiv2 still sits on my shelf collecting dust (and my friend's shelf). We've now waited through two expansions and it sounds like multi-player still isn't close to being implemented. Sheesh, if multi-player isn't going to be added soon then take me off the mailing list. I've (recently) had conversations at work where GalCiv2 is used as an example of a well designe
Ouch, backing off the release date, not mentioning any new "new" features to be added that sound interesting and no mention of including multiplayer in the delayed release just killed my intention to pre-order.
Nine months? I'm just about at that point now after only one month.
Definitely this would be an appreciated feature!
I'd love to see players losing to the AI in multiplayer because they were too busy fighting with each other to realize the AI empires were forming alliances and growing powerful while the foolish humans fought! That'd be awesome. I suspect the multiplayer and singleplayer crowds will always have different points of view. In HoI many whine that singleplayer is pitiful and you have to play multiplayer to enjoy the game, but then whine that the multiplayer code is unstable and unreliable
I would love to see a test where an expansion that only adds multiplayer is released, then observe the sales. Of course there will be *many* people at the store that look at it, notice no multiplayer and put it back on the shelf without further thought. As for the crack about "inexperienced developers". {laugh} I've supported my customers for years and well, some systems work, some don't. It's rarely the hardware but far more often the drivers (usually video drivers) and I can'
I find Bleral's comments interesting because most of the games I've seen have multiplayer slapped on without any development as if they don't expect anyone to play it but just wanted the feature listed. Most games "multiplayer" is a joke. But for those rare good games being able to play with others (not against them) it makes the games far, far more interesting. Why is multiplayer interesting? Because single player becomes a routine exercise of watching pixels move around on y
Not to hijack the thread but please increase the maximum galaxy size. Please keep us updated as DA gets closer to being released. I will probably pre-order but I want another week of trying out GalCiv2 1.2 before I actually order DA.
It's an option in the settings. I just shut them off.
Yes, star density and habitable planet density is very important. In my game I have those both down quite a bit and thus I only have colonized a few planets all fairly close to each other, thus demonstrating to me the fun of having restricted range. It doesn't matter so much whether it's colonizing a planet (if you can find one) or building a starbase. Keeping ships tied fairly close to your planets and starbases looks to me like a huge improvement. I asked one friend his opinion of G
The registration/copy protection scheme is fine. Much nicer than having to download "cracks" so that we don't need the CD in other games. I virtually refuse to play any game that requires a CD! The only improvement I'd say is put in the dashes to break up the serial number so it's easier to read and type! I'll toss in another vote for multiplayer . Multiplayer is an essential feature. Forget the strangers on the web (I hate those idiotic services to connect you
Another opportunity for improvement to the design! Speed should give an advantage in battle. As a simple first step: give whichever side has a speed advantage (slowest ship compared to slowest ship) a +1 on their combat stats.
I'm still relatively new to playing GalCiv2 but two things stand out as issues that could easily be fixed to greatly improve gameplay (and I intend to mod them for myself): Range - It's far too easy to build ships that have enough range to travel across the largest galaxy size. Range should be reworked and at maximum it should be maybe 20% of the distance across the galaxy. This would *force* building of starbases in order to reach enemy space. This would add a lot of s
In my opinion, an expansion (vs a patch) is when a good game gains additional features. I have no problem at all spending more money on a game that has demonstrated it is good or has the potential to be good. Dark Avatar does add two things: spies & asteroid belts (I couldn't care less about the other things). Is this worth paying for? Well, I wasn't even considering it until I read that if Dark Avatar sales are good then the next expansion will add multiplayer. As good as GalCiv2 is
This is fantastic news! In fact it's a reason to buy "Dark Avatar" (which I previously wasn't even considering). What about offering a multiplayer pre-order? If enough of us pre-paid $100 for multiplayer maybe that would motivate Stardock to do it sooner? Well, time to e-mail my friends and let them know multiplayer is coming.
Apparently the documentation must be incorrect. As the original post explained it does say the fleet combat values will be combined (and hence implied lots of small ships are better than a single large ship).
It's a great idea to separate your data from the operating system. Just get ahold of a copy of "Partition Magic" and adjust the sizes of your drives to give your C drive a bit more room.
{laugh} No demand? My entire group of friends would buy GalCiv2 in a second if it had multiplayer. But alas, no multiplayer means I'm stuck playing it by myself. Lack of multiplayer is the only serious flaw in GalCiv2 that I've found so far.
Thank you! That's very helpful. (a simple concept but an important one) So, hopefully I'm correct in summarizing that factories speed up both ship building and planetary improvement building but not research.
Starports build ships. Or do you mean more factories will result in faster ship building? (and would that only be factories on the same planet as a starport?)
I think I understand GalCiv2 ok (well for a newbie). But one thing doesn't seem clear to me. Why build factories? If research does research, starports build ships, then as far as I can tell factories only help build other improvements. So ok, you want a factory or two per planet but then they are useless? I've got to be missing something basic.
Multi-player Lack of multi-player is the single most lacking feature of GalCiv2.
What is "blind exploration"? I haven't found any documentation of what this option actually does.
I'd like to suggest the webpage be made a bit clearer as to what updates are desired and what order to install them. I purchased the "Collectors Edition". I went to updates and it shows the v1.2, ok that sounds good, so I download it. Then I see the bonus pack and the "enable in game content", so I download those. Since the files for the bonus pack are 10x and the v1.2 update is 120 I figure I should install the bonus pack first and then v1.2. I'm assuming this is correct, but it might be n
