Reply to AI cheats? in Modding

To start with, I am not trying to pick on any one person, but the poster I quote had most of the important issues I am concerned with commented on. I am also not trying to flame anyone, nobody wins in that situation. If I seem to be, please accept my apologies. The iconians know where all the planets are, that's just been said. Do they k

The AI does receive (among many other bonuses) a significant bonus to sensor range on the top difficulty levels, so it can scout vast regions of space very quickly. I just played the start of 2 more games and the range of sensors must be 30 or more. There were 3 colonizable planets near where my custom race and the Iconians starte

The AI does'nt know where the good planets are. They still start out with the flag ship unit. Is that to say they don't know if a system has colonized planets or not? It seems they do have more than just star locations with Stellar Cartography. Nothing irks me more than to send scout ships out trying to locate planets only to watch the AI go bo

I have been modding the game some and decided it would be nice to have subdivisions of the hulls and moved them around in the tech tree as to when you get them. The tiny hull for instance does not come until you research 'basic logistics'. As a result, the AI's do not have immediate access to them and can not build their 'standard scouts'. What then happens is they do not build any scouts, instead concentrating on colony ships and constructors. This is fine, however it rather bugs me that even w

Each mod should be downloaded and installed in a folder of its own. The button you see is how you navigate to that folder and select it. Then you must exit the game and restart. That's pretty much it.

Too easy to exploit. Turn up, invade, turn down. Rince, repeat as needed. I believe it could be easy to work around and a nice feature. Apply it to some real life thinking... your military needs training and equipment, so you toss the finance department 1 million dollars. The results one week later is not going to be astronomical, but with time

I really am not that informed on how the bottom line of profit and loss comes into play as it deals with gaming companies. However, if you believe that all the software companies that have gone out of business because of insolvency then I am guessing there will be a considerable number of them joining the ranks. If you are running close to borderline as is, and dish out say 5% to incorporate copy protection from a third party, then add the 28% profit you lose, then your bottom line profit i

Why is it not possible? Why is it not possible to create new starbase types? To limit what can be modified is not supporting mods really. Why have part of your code hard coded and part of it in xml files? Would seem to me to be easier with it totally one way or the other. The starbases for example, if I wanted to be able to create a morale starbase to go with the existing 3 now, why shouldn't I be able to by adding it to a GC2SBtypes.xml (or so) and set modules to alter stats for the moral

About the only real bug I have been seeing is my economy is screwy. My tax income likes to change from 3500 to 4400 in one week with tax rate staying constant, and then jumps back and forth each turn, nothing to do with war or transports since all races are at peace. Pretty hard to keep playing when you constantly have to check if you are making cash or losing it.

I will buy it online from Stardock, the GalCiv2 purchase went very well. Steam sucks big time. My only concern is for people who for what ever reasons do not have credit cards (minors come to mind before bad credit) and will not have a way to purchase it online. Believe it or not there are some areas that still do not have local internet access. I for one think the view point of businesses that 'we will get 85% of the business still' is wrong. You should do your very best to provide services to

When an enemy attacks my planet and has soldiering at +5 and mine is +105, and my tech is at 2 to 10 times higher, how can they beat me even when I have a few more totals? It seems combat simply goes by the 13 vs 14 part that acts like a slot machine until you press attack. I could sort of understand this behaviour if at the end of the battles where they win the planet suffers damage because they took the highest attack option or so, but it is very rare that any damage occurs. This leads me to b

So there is a way to create fleets in orbit but you have to research the tech Fleet Manager. Did not know that, but still I wonder why you would need to do that for your in orbit ships if you do not need to for the out of orbit ones. I have alot of questions I tried to get answered with the tutorials but my god they suck for the most part. Anyway, thanks for the replies, above and beyond the question hehe. So far the game is pretty good, I wouldn't go so far as to say it is better than MOO at th

Am I missing something on planet defense? When I have 8 ships in orbit at my planet I can not seem to group them into a fleet that will defend that planet. If I launch them and create a fleet they sit there and watch as the planet is smacked around by the enemy. What gives here? If this is working as intended I want my $45 back.
