Sorry if it's been asked often, I did a quick search and turned up nothing. Here's the question; Is there any way I can make the AI use custom ships (custom in appearance only) that I build in the ship editor? I thought there was a way to do this but I can't seem to remember if it's true... thanks for any replies.

A lot of the big ones have been said but I'll try to touch on everything that's been in my head: On combat: tactical options for fitting your ships Right now, there's no reason to choose one type of weapon over another aside from trying to exploit your enemy's weakness. Ships fitted evenly with 1:1:1 ratio of weapons don't really do much more than ships fitted with 1:1:0 or 1:0:0 except for the fact that they each "roll" seperately and might do
Hey guys, quick question: I've seen a few AARs where people have been giving themselves negatives in attributes in custom races and seem to have received extra spendable points. I've tried ingame to do this but there seems to be no optin for this. Is this a case of someone modding the game to their liking, or am I reading the descriptions in the AARs wrong?
Seeing as how (as far as I can remember) custom races start out with only 15 ability points in TA.... it seems there really is no reason to play them: Find the race that fits your playstyle for the session, distribute the other points they receive and have a go... unless of course I'm missing something. but thank you immensely for all that info :)
Since I usually don't like making new threads I'll post my related question here: Starting as a true custom race vs altered main race: Is there any real difference in starting ability points? Does the custom race always get the short end of the stick or does it depend on which main race it's compared to?
Hey paralaje, I'm still pretty much a beginner so here's some concise advice and explanations from one beginner to another: First off, your specific questions have more or less been addressed. Second, like it's been said, you're wrong to go for the first planet you see. The planet in your system is a pity planet at only 4
You don't need to add a % chance of missing (the game's combat has enough random factors, thank you).
I know tyhe game has some random factors in battles, what I was talking about wasn't random. I'm talking about bonuses in certain areas so that these 'random rolls' have tangible benefits. Big topic.... didn't read it all. There's one issue I've been thinking about though, (NOTE I am not a veteran player and thus my suggestion may already be present in the game) There's no reason (as far as I can see) to have fleets of mixed-sized ships. Once I research the next size hull, everything I create is that size. Naturally if I see an attack coming and only have time to spit out a smaller ship I'll do so, but it's rare tha
It's been a while since I played galciv2, but I think I remember there being no ultimate space-combat weapons at the end of the tech tree. I was looking through the library for super-weapons but only turned up the world-destroying type rather than the space-combat type. I there any mod that introduced massive weapons into ship-building, and if not, would it be easy to do?
Ok, basically I'd likea critique of my strategy, and maybe some suggestions. I usually play humans/custom, with a bonus for social production, economics and research; ---------------- At the beggining of the game I buy a colony ship and a factory. I set my spending to usually social and military half-and-half, and lower my research. I make my home planet my production planet, and almost build factories exclusively (to churn out colony ships and then constructors) once my l
Ok, long story short I'm an idiot and can't read. The beta 5e (mixed vp, was it?) did the trick, along with 2 gigs of virtual memory. Before when seeing 5 mini freighters and one scout ship I was reduced to 1 fps, I churned out 11 new scouts at the beginning of the game and had over a dozen ships onscreen at once, with no visible framerate hit. I'm cautiously optimistic Thanks for everything.
Awesome, thanks for everything you're doing EDIT: unfortunately, the new beta makes the problem even worse for me. In the above image, I was experienceing an FPS of 1. Now, there are 6 ships on screen as far as I can tell, as soon as there are less the problem gets better. If there are none it runs smoo
Just did and... now the game won't start up (black square on screen for a good while, but no startup)
I'm also experiencing more choppy-than normal gameplay. It also occured in the vanilla game (probably since my specs aren't too hot), but at a much later time when many many ships were onscreen. Now it occcurs much earlier in the game, sometimes when only one ship is visible. Sometimes I experience none at all. It seems mostly random. Here are my specs and debug; (EDIT: I really think I posted too much. Sorry, first time with the debug and all... feel free to prune it mods <img src="http://imag
Downloading now EDIT: COP-OUT! lol nah, good scenes overall, but I would have killed for some fraps of the mod in action Still can't wait for it to come out
Sweet. Everything looks awesome so far, can't wait for the new tech tree! I'd lend a hand, but I'm an artist (the sketching/painting/photoshopping kind) not a modder. If you need use of an extra set of hands though, maybe for photoshopped portraits/altered pics, logos or the like, I'd be willing
Playing as the federation, my encounters with 'cloaked ships' are far from fun. I have no idea how they are invisible at the beginning of the game, but fights with invisible borg ships include: - no attack visuals - no attack sound effects (the damage is seen in the little menu though) - random crashes to the desktop. Just thought I'd letcha know, can't wait for the full version
After one game, my background music is completely gone, unless I'm (for some reason) in a war. The only cultural music I get is when I speak to the Acreans, Altarians and terrans. I'm not a complete idiot, so yes, the music is enabled in options. Any help appreciated.
