If you do not like that attackers have an unfair advantage, fix it yourselves Just add a planetdefence tag to you default Initial Colony planetary improvement and correct the problem For example, open PlanetImprovements.xml and add "[PlanetaryDefenseBonus]50[/PlanetaryDefenseBonus]" to Initial Colony to give defending planet a 50% bonus

The only way to increase a planets quality besides taraforming are events. Meabee You could generate a special planet improvement event when you build a certain building or reseach a certain technology
It tried to create a module with Starbase range, but when I add this module to a starbase, nothing seems to change. Are you sure it is implemented?
In that case I suggest you create your own mods. With a few AI tweaks you can make the the computer controlled races much better allowing it to compete or beat the player much at lower difficulty settings.

The problem with militairy starbases is that their range is very limited. Once you conquered the surrounding area, the oftenly are no use anymore.
Depending on my tech advantage, I buld my ships with less or better defences. I always try to mach my ships weapon configurations to the enemies weapons/ defences, that alone often gives me a 50% advantage.

I play on huge maps, and I see them every time. They are often a bit of a anoyance. Why the hell are they building influence starbases at my homeworld?
There apairs to be some maximum range a shipdesign can travel. in beta2a, I played on a huge map and I use several survey ships to systematicly search for anomalies. Everytime I reach the border of the maximum range of the ship, I upgrade the survey ship to a more advanced model with longer range and higher speed. This worked fine until the last time. Instead if increasing the range of my ship, the range barrier became square instead of a circle. Since my ship was already on one of the 4 axes my
After the Beta2a patch, a new form of armor is unlocked called Superior Duranthium. You get this armor with the same tech as Duranthium III, but it damage absorbtion is twise as high (making it ywise as effective). Although the cost of a unit is 20bc highter, on average it is cheaper for protection/cost. I.M.H.O This armor is way unbalanced. It allowed me to construct a spaceship which singlehandled killed several Yor fleets witout a scatch.
