personally, I find all of the popups annoying. I don't mind having that info be tossed into a queue somewhere that I can look at, like the gnn window, but I hate having to click "ok" through fifteen yor mining bases that defected to join the arceans... and why can you turn off super project notification for your own empire, but not for all of the others? Please, less popups!

I feel so bad for the 3D artists because they put so much work in and I never see any of it! :p It amazes me to find a game so well done that I don't need graphics to sustain it. I just find it much more informative to play on the icon-only level because I can identify ship types and planet class at a glance....plus, I can see more.
I need a game with GC's turn based empire building and SoaSE's miltary and gravity well/phase line setup. I would be a GOD at that game. :P So, as a general rule, always build something? (obviously something useful)
Personally, I miss the DL style of espionage. I liked the fire and forget espionage spending, I'd put it on minimum for each race and then ignore it and let my intel slowly climb. now I have to micromanage the intel...which means I'll probably forget. Maybe I should make a Turn Checklist. :P
So I'm starting to get the hang of the economy, sorta, except for that whole rated at 40-60 thing. and tech is easy to sort out. Expansion..I'm decent at. But fleets. Fleets kill me. When should you build a fleet? What should you build in each fleet? Where should you put them? Why do you need them? It's generally been my practice to build
also, what's with the 10 point techs that don't unlock anything? Like the race history techs and such.
another disturbing/disappointing thing is that certain race specific tech trees gain no extra bonuses from certain ethic choices...like the Altarians as neutral only get neutral shipping and learning centers, but if you choose good they get a half dozen extra defensive techs as well as some fleet defense and attack modules.
Every game ends up the same situation for me. I'm doing good, I'm expanding....and then BAM! suddenly, I'm stretched too thin, I can't keep up with everything and my treasury is self destructing! usually, this happens when I need to start building a military. But if I stay too small, the computer has out-colonized me and has a bigger population base to work with...it seems a no win situation....the computer always has loads of money to fund it's empire and I have nothing...can't even
Yeah, I definitely design my own ships...usually not very varied, tho. heh, I have a fighter, a constructor, a transport and a colony/scout (and a freighter) I've never seen any high class planets...a class 12 is the highest I've found so far...
[edit]What the deuce? I didn't post this in this thread....
I just got the game a couple days ago (sue me, I'm behind the power curve) and read a bunch about it here and on the wiki, but there's still some stuff I'm fuzzy on: -What's the best way to build each type of planet and how do you know which to focus on? (eco, inf, manu) (if you could, give an example for a class 5, 10 and 20) -Planetary defense strategies? Locations for putting starbases, fleets, etc. -Is it better to group like planets for specialization? i.e.
