Well, the majority conensus seems to be either (a) give up and go on to a more enjoyable game(Scintor, ras1310)or(b)try concentrating on influence and diplomacy while rushing planetary invasion (TiPerdsen, Tertulian, Biggy Boy, nullspace, Evil Muppet, r02778, 7th circle). In my limited experience, I don't mind being put in a corner. In games other than the one in question, I havent found that starting from a corner necessarily handicaps finding habitable planets to colonize. I agree w

Playing at "Normal" difficulty with a medium size universe and normal numbers of stars and planets, the computer put me (Terrans) in a corner of the universe. In spite of a vigorous scramble for planets (e.g., bought 4 colony ships to save time),I ended up with only Earth and Mars, and got crushed. Can anyone suggest a strategy that might pull the game out when in this situation, or is it better to just retire and move on to a new game?
Symptoms are: (1) The small Save window doesn't appear when the Save button is clicked on after creating a new ship. (2) The Save window is found on the main starmap window after the shipyard window has been closed. (3)When OK is then clicked on the Save window, the game crashes to the desktop. (4) After re-opening the game, the save ship function works OK. I don't have the current version. Has this bug been fixed in a recent version of the game?
The mouse wheel worked. Thanks!
Thanks, CariElf. Can you suggest a workaround?
This concerns the rally point list that appears when trying to assign a rally point to a ship. When I set more rally points than the list can hold, the scroll bar appears to the right of the list as expected, but when I click on the circle at the bottom of the bar the list doesn't scroll down. (All the other scroll bars in the game work OK.) Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

When I right click to set a ship's destination a little blue circle that collapses repeatedly appears and stays after the ship moves. Are these sort of temporary Rally Points? How do I get rid of them?
Thank you all for very helpful responses.
I'm on my first game and am enjoying it very much. The following questions, which I can't find answers to anywhere, have come up: 1. The list of my civilication's ranking within the other civilizations (I think it's in the My Civilization tab - my game is on another computer) doesn't make sense. The listed ranks of individual characteristics (Military, Economy, etc.)of my civilization are from 1 to 4, yet it lists my overall rank as 7th. How can this be? 2. What does it mean
