I'm pretty sure that the number of opponents isn't important for the military score. I just finished a game where I sat back and did massive tech advances while the other civs slugged it out. At the end after I had almost all techs I built three massive ships and killed several hundred ships of the other races. Since my military ranking was almost zero the entire game until the last year, my final military score was one-fifth that of the primary military race even though our final kill count
