This is funny. I was going to mention capitol ships/carriers in another thread and then I saw this one. I was somehow thinking my idea was unique but I guess not. I certainly don't see these things as unnecessary complexity. Massive carrier ships engaged in battles with other fleets ejecting scads of small fighters would make for a great cinematic. I can see it being complex from the development side but after all that's what devs do... they develop, then we buy, they get paid and then we have f

Just wanted to report this in case I'm the first. I'm running the latest beta of TA on a WinXP machine (P4-2.8ghz, 2gigs DDR4 RAM, 9800PRO). My galaxy size is set to immense. I've been developing large fleets of constructors mixed with my huge and large battle ships. I have max logistics so I get as many constructors in there as possible and then I set the course for Torian homeworlds and build Terror Stars. The exact time that it quits to desktop is usually when I disband the fleet an

Yeah, exactly. I have waited out the freeze-up before by checking out my civ manager and foreign stats and such, but now I know the info inside and and out. And I just want to finish. I've been trying to take down those smug little Torians as well. Well they aren't so smug any more after I've taken over 20 or so of their planets :) But ever since I entered their territory I can't attack a ship or orbiting ships without this 2-5 minute delay. Turn button goes away and all that stuff. No

I would think (hope?) that there would be some link between morale/approval rating on a planet and the likelihood of your people assassinating a visiting leader. So in other words I would hope my people, who love me so much, would never do such a thing! ;)

Thank you all for the comments. It's really helpful. When I was talking about defenses I meant the starbases mostly. I mostly put starbases around the extent of my territory. Though in thinking lately I could also see just putting them where resources are and arming them... or also putting military starbases near key planet clusters so I need less ships to defend those planets throughout the game.

Early on in my last game I got the pirates event and had all of my ships wiped out. Their ships had 50+ power and I was still reasearching Lasers III. It sucked. That same game the Jagged Knife also took over 20% of my planets and so liberating them was impossible as there were still pirates out there. I had no chance whatsoever and I turn off the technology victory condition when I play. So I just gave up instead of dying a slow death as there were better games to be had.

It's kind of funny that I have had Galactic Civilizations II for quite some time and I bought (now) both of the expansion packs as soon as they were released and yet I am still a newb. I know I am. I play games typically an hour or so a night if it all and so games like this that I could easily play for 24-36 hours straight without hardly blinking an eye scare the bejesus out of me to some extent so I haven't played the game that much except in large doses. I'm back in a large dose now
