I haven't played the game in quite a while; although I do think about it a lot. However, I am discouraged by the current trade system, etc. Logistics is presently a cake walk and barely affects the strategy of the game. It's mostly about acquiring the biggest planets first and not about resources. In addition, tourism is automatic and not something the player truly sets up or manages. You build a militar

Welcome to 2013, eh? I have not played GalCiv-II in quite some time. In fact, I've been waisting my time playing Empire Earth II: The Art of Conquest. But that's neither here nor there. Then again, what is also Not here is Gal Civ III; and II just leaves too much to be desired. I almost long for the days when I was running The Major BBS and a game called Galactic Empire. Now it's World Group and GE no longer exists; except in a memory or two (

From opening Post; "We look forward to continuing this saga someday in the future!" From Reply #2: "We still love this game and as you can see it still brings new customers. We deserve a 2.05 at least " From Reply #5: "Looking forward to hear how GalCiv III will benefit from such competition " From Reply #6: "Here's the problem - now that they're all buddy-buddy with Valve, they've infected each other. I don't know why I was thinking there was a multi-player version of Gal Civ; wishful thinking I suppose. However, my thoughts regarding the Fan Base are more along the lines of stock investors rather than spectators (or somewhere in between the two). At the moment it's just a thought that I have yet to really delve into very deeply, but I suspect that there is an untapped potential there. It's just a matter of developing the right ni

Athlete's who are really, really good at their game get paid for playing. So, why is it that us thinkers aren't getting paid to play the games we are really, really good at playing? Gal Civ II, for example, would lend itself well to such an environment. Granted, it wouldn't be a simple two hour match and I suppose it's not exactly set up for spectators. However, that could be a finan

Hmm. I glanced through all the responses and find it hard to believe that I didn't see Babylon Five (unless I missed it). It's more or less Star Trek DS-9 on reality steroids. That is to say that it was a darker and dirtier space station than DS-9. Anyway, there are several seasons and you definitely want to watch the shows in chronological order... My two cents. SK PS. Who knew Melissa Gilbert would grow into such a hot looking woman...

Hmm. eight replies and no one has been able to answer your question (or simply forgot to do so). Unfortunately, this is number nine and I don't have an answer for you either; as I'm not familiar with the game. I do regret selling my Commodore 128D and the Hard Drive I had for it. Every time I go to the Casino (for the all you can eat seafood buffet; not to gamble), I pass the Arctic Fox slot machine and remember the Arctic Fox tank game I used to play on the Commodore.

Hmm, almost an entire month and I'm the first to respond. How strange. My favorite Stock race would have to be the Yor. I like their style of ships andthat the enemy movement within their sphere(s) of influence is reduced to a crawl. My least favorite is the Torians; as they breed like rodents and tend to over run the galaxy (except when I try to play as them). I know you were probably looking for a bit more pomp and circumstance; but it's mid afterno
My recommendation for this forum is that we remember that true realism isn't realistic. So we should try and limit our suggestions to minor game play improvements and even bug fixes.
True realism may not be realistic, but there is logical vs. illogical. It seems illogical to me to start off with a Flagship that I have no way to reproduce. It's also not logical to start off with a colony ship before I've determined where to send it.&nbs

My wife doesn't (or didn't), but then she uses two seperate computers at her office... So, you would think she should. I'm surprised that someone hasn't already written a utility (similar to the Galactopedia) that would allow us to select and access our data in a second screen (even if read only). SK

I'll always be "Pro-Choice", so you won't hear me complaining if tactics are implemented provided there is a choice to turn them off. I do, however, miss the ability to subdue and board an enemy ship rather than simply destroying it. At least let me sift through the rubble after the battle is over and gather whatever intelligence, compnonent(s) and or new technologies that might be there to be found. Then again, maybe my attack isn't an attack at all. Perhaps I'm j
I have a feeling that the storyline in GalCiv 3 may be going somewhere with the Krynn, but we'll just have to wait and see.
I can only hope that Gal Civ III turns out to be a totally different galaxy with a story line all it's own. If one is simply going to continue the current one, then simply make a new expansion... As for the Krynn, I have yet to play them; but I think I'll give them some thought.

I'd like to see an option that allows you to offset the start date of your opponents. This wouldn't necessarily be in a Scenario setting; it'd probably be in the Race setup section (as that is the most logical place to put it). Anyway, for example: you could start your less intelligent race(s) out ahead of yourself and your more intelligent one(s) afterwards (or whatever you choose). I realize it's not quite in keeping with the story line; but then I kind of like to begi

That's the only question of Logic you've come up with? I come up with so many all the time that I'd be here forever posting them! My biggest one, though, has always been: "How is it I start with a Flagship that I don't have the technolgy to have created in the first place?" I guess it was a gift from Santa. Too bad I can't simply reverse engineer it. SK

I chose the wrong night to peruse the forums, I see. I guess my new year's resolution to finally learn Visual C++ etc. wi ll be one that I actually keep. As I doubt that modding can be accomplished on the WII, PS(# whatever) or XBox , although I have to admit that the PC has never been utilized to it's fullest potential (which is probably Microsoft's fault)! Microsoft might wake up one day and realize that they are in the process of puttin

I actually managed to read all 50 of the replies preceding the one I'm making now. I agree with some and disagree with others... With that on my mind, I can only hope that any significant changes will also be made "optional". In the "long run", though, I may simply have to hold out for Gal Civ III; as the changes I would like to see don't eactly fit the current story lines. Although I suppose they could be implemented as a new expansion that jumps back in time...&nbsp

I'm curious too. I've been reading through the various posts trying to learn as much about the map editor and map making as possible. I want the ability to create a map (the Milky Way for instance) that I can use to play a variety of games with different choices regarding my opponents. Except that they'll always start in a given location, and I'll always start in a given location (that being based on which race I chose). I also want to include the minor races as w

I was reading through the modding section when I was reminded of how weird it is that one starts with a Flagship that one doesn't even have the technologies with which to recreate. So, you need to fix that! AND, with that in mind: the idea came to me that scout ships should be able to survey anomlies; except that it'd take multiple turns (like a minor on an asteroid) to complete (until the survey technolpgy is reached). OH, and I'd also like to see permanent worm ho

I don't know that I'll download your mod and try it out; as I'm still in the process of getting familiar with mods & modding. I do agree (in part) with your comment about the starting ships. I've never understood how you can start with a ship that you don't have two thirds of the technology required to recreate it. This brings to mind an idea for Gal Civ 3, (which I'll have to post in the appropriate thread): Surveying anamolies should be doable with a scout

You can do more than use planets to speed you on your way. If they are right next to each other, (or just one space away), you can transport people from one to the other endlessly. Seems to me that entering or leaving a planet should take up one movement point, but... Oh Well. SK

There's 50+ pages here and I don't have time to read to see what I'm about to suggest has already been suggested. But then if it's not original "all the better" as it means I'm not the only one desiring the change. Any way, here goes: 3D would be great, but I'm not a big fan of real time unless there's a pause & play capability (ie. one pauses the game, issues multiple commands and unpauses... takes forever but it's the only way my brain can keep up with the comp
