Using the DA beta, I created a custom race for the first time. When I started the game, I discovered that my homeworld is radioactive! And I do not have the colonization tech for radioactive worlds. I started a new game just to see if the same thing would happen and it did. Is this a known bug?

I also had the pirates! mega-event. In this case, I was eventually able to build ships that could take out the pirates, giving me the only navy in the game. I also had Galactic Priviteer, which meant that I had the only trade routes in the game. This allowed me to form alliances with all but one other civ despite the fact that I was neutral and they were all evil.

My guess (and I don't know enough about your style to be sure) is that your problem is population. Even with lots of stock markets, you need high pop to really have a healthy economy. I, like many others here, perfer to start with taxes set low enough to get 100% approval early, even if it means loosing money. 100% approval gives pop growth bonuses and getting that jump start early pays off later. Once the colony rush is over I increase taxes (but try to keep 75% approval if possible). Even

At this point, worry more about your own survival. If the Torians kill you, the fact that your trade partner survuved is kind of irrelevant. Get peace any way you can, then concentrate on getting larger hulls and better weapons and defense (make sure to pick the defense against his weapon type). I have found that one or two fleets of large ships with high attack and defense stats can defeat a large number of inferior foes.

I've also noticed this at Tough with larger galaxies. Most AI's get into extreme economic difficulty. When I try to tech trade with them, often I find that they have under 1000 bc after 2 or 3 game years. I suspect that you have correctly analyzed the problem.

Also, it is helpful to consider economics (after all, these companies exist to make money). One of the most basic financial truths in existance is that money you receive now is worth more that money that you will receive in the future. The reason for this is that the money you receive now can be reinvested to earn future profits. If you don't receive the money now, you have to wait to reinvest and your returns on the reinvestment are delayed. The way compounding works, once you have lost tim

If you made an alliance with a Minor, you cannot break that alliance unless another race declares war on that minor and you refuse to aid them. If you are in al alliance, then you cannot attack.

Actually you do want your freighters produced at high PQ worlds because the trade routes are more lucrative. I usually do eather constructor production or research.

Also check miniturization. Even if you have all the needed componants, if you don't have enough miniturization the ship won't appear. I find that my progress through the tech tree changes so much from game to game that I can rairly find previous designs. So what I do (and I borrowed from others on this forum is to design the look of my ships without any componants (other than hull size). That way the blank ship appears as soon as you research the hull tech. Then I add functional com

Ok, we all know that two races are going to be wiped out. I now believe that the Torians are one. Why, the screen shot of the Torian in the jail cell being approached by a Korath. My theory is that he is the last living Torian and that the Korath is taunting him about it before eating him.

I've had an even more bizarre experience. On a tiny map, my home planet was dead center of the map. To the south west were the Korx, whom I was at war with. To the North east were the Iconians. I produced a transport at my home world and immediately sent it toward Korx space (This was a base transport with speed 3). After a turn, the Iconians declared war, despite the fact that the transport was many turns away from their worlds and headed in the opposite direction. Go figure...

The first shot would not be overpowered if it applies to the first round of combat only. If it applies to the whole battle, then it is very powerful.

I find that it is highly variable. I do find a lot of dead systems, but then there are also systems with 4 class 12+ planets (Right next to Toria, dang it...)

"So what happens now?" "We face each other as God intended, sportsmanlike, no tricks, no weapons, skill against skill alone." You mean that you'll put down your harpoon and I'll but down my Doom Ray and we'll try to kill each other like civilized people?"

Another aspect is, can you flip a world that you do not have the tech to colonize? I would hope not, but we'll see.

I see three main problems (some have been pointed out before) 1. Lack of transports at beginning of war 2. Transports are often unescorted 3. Poor target selection The first two are pretty self-explanitory, but the third is particularly evident. In a recent game, I had a Torian transport within strike range of an undefended planet. However, it bypassed the easy target in favor of moving toward a planet deep inside my empire. So, rather than loosing a class 10 fron

After finishing and posting a game, I checked the scoreboard and found that although my score is in excess of 37,000 points, several people ranked higher than me have 35,000 or less. WHy is that?

Very minor nit-pick. I'd like to see the S-foils in attack position. Otherwise great work!

I also would like to see limited expansion from minors. The suggestion of letting them colonize their home system is a good one, but I might go a little farther and give them a radius arround their homeworld, say 20 parsecs or so that they can expand into.

The problem I have with 1genocide, is that his post makes it clear that DA is not an expansion unless HE says it is an expansion, and he doesn't say it is an expansion unless it has what HE wants. 4 evil govt's? 4 evil political parties? I don't care a thing about that, but unless it is included, DA is not an expansion, according to him. Since nothing matters but what HE wants, I suggest that he writh a game himself.

I have had this issue with the latest beta: When either disbanding a fleet or using the little x to remove one ship from the fleet, the computer locks up and I must manually power down (ctrl+alt+delete does not work).
