Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go again, I think maybe I just got a really lucky start (and the AIs mostly got really unlucky start positions. To be precise, only the Korx, Thalans and Torians were doing well, the rest were anemic.) I was using the smart minors, but I might also switch that to the MOO2 colonizing version for some fun. If all else fails, I'll turn the difficulty up another notch to boost the AI economies.

You most definitely can post to the CK2 general chat forum, you just have to register an account with their forums! You cannot access the sub forums (e.g. modding, tech support) until you register your game. Two different registrations processes that you are mixing up I think. Oh, and it's a great game, your best choices are the Gamersgate version if you want full control, or if you are a fan of steam go with the steam version.

Which version of the game are you playing? If it's ToA, there is is ToA 101 thread on the forums somewhere that is a great source of info. Some key newbie tips of my own are: 1) Realize that income and expenses are decoupled, income is based mostly on population (+trade and tourism) so get your pop growth going to stabilize your economy and then start some trade routes.
