@AntiBody, awesome ideas. I would like to add to that, the ability to plant spies on specific alien planets, on starbases, and even on enemy ships that pass through your space or near your ships/starbases, maybe via trade routes with them. (These would of course requir ea resource expendature and appropriate tech.) Then you could select those enemy "objects" (planet, ship, starbase) and deliver orders to your spies accordingly. Maybe basic spying (info-gathering) would be automatic on the ob

Well, I'd like to chime in here... er, no pun intended. First of all, @Gormoth1 and others who would hate the idea: There's absolutely no reason why this couldn't be optional, and easily disabled via the in-game options screen. Second, and this touches on a much broader issue, nearly every game that has any kind of point-and-click graphical user interface -- in other words, nearly all in the past two decades -- has (usually-) subtle sound events associated with any given us
Possible remedy to having a starport on home planet by default: Tweak the ship hull requirements so they require some lower-mid-level tech, that way even though you have the shipyard you can't *use* it without a fair amount of research. Also, possible solution to the starting ships: Open GalCiv2\Data\English\GC2Ships.xml, and remove all additional components except the hull itself. This will keep them shackled to very close to your home planet with minimal speed and sight, and ditto
Agreed, the core ships are next to worthless (save for the colonizers and constructors), and I've wiled away many hours tinkering with new ship designs and ideas in the Shipyard, not only for functionality but just to make Really Cool-Looking Ships. Maybe it's the Scottish blood in me, or the armchair engineer, or the sci-fi nerd, or all three, but man the Shipyard in this game is downright addictive. I've even gone so far as to funnel my in-game resources into not-really-necessary research ju
@smartwings: I too have the same problem, on a nearly identical rig except P4 2.66GHz 512k-L2, but same RAM & video. Obviously this isn't a "PC speed" issue at all, there's some other glitch at work here, given the incredibly low *required* system to run GC2, we're both well above the minimum. Anyway, perhaps I missed something while skimming too fast, but any hint at what changes will be implmented in "official" 1.2 and 1.2 Beta 2? Or ar
