I know there's a sticky right here about this, but it doesn't say anything about my situation. I bought Gal Civ 2 last year, registered it to my email account, and everything was fine. Then I got a serious virous that fried my computer. I had my email account deleted and went without a computer for some time. Now I got a new one, a new email account, and wanted to install Gal Civ. Unfortuneately, the CD's are both gone. I have the serial number though. I figured, no bi

pretty much the only thing i agree with is the building of a basic factory on your first turn. i always research weapons first. i prefer to be in a corner. i try to keep my moral above 70. i dont upgrade my colony ship. i settle only one more planet. then i work on making a powerful but small fleet. this way noone declares war on me and i can pretty much destroy anyone that comes inside my territory. then i slowly expand outwards. I've only lost 2 games out of who knows how many this way.
my question is...why buy a planet when you can take it? Kill them, take the goods, That's the way to do it.
why does it matter how far away it is? if you want to go there, go there.
In 1.2 and before, all races had their own special advantages, but they seemed to even eachother out. Now in 1.3, the Arceans are unstoppable on the higher difficulty settings. Okay, maybe not unstoppable, but they are extremely hard to beat. Just as an experiment, I started a game and set 8 opponents to simple and then the Arceans to dunce. This should have given the other races a large leap over the Arceans. However, when I started the game, the Arceans quickly destroyed 2 other races
I have noticed that the Arceans have a very large advantage in every way possible in 1.3
Or you could just kill everyone and then become the one and only ruler so you don't have to worry about it.
If you do war right, all those things happen. You get more planets to put research facilities on, and when you conquer someone you get free techs. But I see what you mean. It would be cool to have like a government type that when at war, production of all types goes up 5-10% or something like that.
There would probably end up being a glitch where the ships got stuck together. Then there would just be a blob going around the planet. Although that sounds almost cool too.
I had roughly 90% of the planets in the entire "huge" galaxy with "abundant" everything. So money wasn't that big of an issue. I had been saving up to that point. I was down to about 20K when my computer froze. I don't think I'll do that again.
ok, thanks for the tips. A storm took my power out (I'm on a friend's computer) so I won't be able to try it until tomorrow.
I make mine stupid on purpose. I put outrageously huge extras on them and slap my engines/weapons/etc on top of them. The battle scene can get jerky, but it's worth it to watch some behemouth scout ship take on a little tiny battleship.
I have been playing Gal Civ 2 a lot lately...and honestly, it's getting stupid. I miss Malkari. But Malkari was created way back in the dark ages...something like 1999. It won't run on this computer. The autorun.exe file required to install it no longer exists. So my question is, is there a way to make that game work that I've overlooked?
Oh forgot, when I say "around my planet" I mean in the squares around the planet.
I did it...I played nonstop for 48 hours and had close to 700 ships around my planet...and then my computer froze and I had to manually shut it off. It was worth it though. I haven't had that much fun since...well..Malkari.
Why can there only be a few ships around a planet? That is the last thing about this game that really annoys me. In Malkari, I had over 2000 ships around my home planet once. And one of my enemies had close to 10000. This made some extremely heated battles and also made conquest of planets MUCH more difficult. The whole battle/invasion and all that stuff around planets seems lame. I don't mean to offend anyone, but seriously, isn't there something that could be done?
I use my home planet as an industrial planet. I dont put any labs or influence items on it. Only things that have to do with industry and military. (and of course one farm and entertainment center just so i get some money). Then i colonize two more planets and one of them is my money maker having only farms, entertainment, and influence items. The other has labs and the like. Then I make a massive military force and destroy everything and use captured planets to make a variety of things.
Why not just find what their weakness is and make all your ships to those specifications. Then mass them up right next to them. Then break the alliance, annihilate them, and make them surrender. I do it all the time.
I agree. While the GalCiv2 interface is much more advanced than my all time favorite space game, Malkari, it still lacks many of the basics in gameplay that I loved so much from Malkari.
Or maybe they ascended to a higher plane of existance. Or maybe they caught the bubonic plague, too.
I tried it once. It was taking too long to make war ships. My military was about 1/4 of the second lowest power. After about 100 turns I had maxed out my number of starbases and upgraded them all the way. Out of 14 logistics. That was on Intelligent AI. I eventually got bored and started capturing more planets.
i noticed that. the forums were down for about 30 minutes. Now all of the images are showing agin.
There is a search option over on the left hand side of the screen.
I got a precursor ranger in trade with the Yor on my 10th turn. Or maybe it was my 11th. I don't remember. But it was the only reason I'm as powerful as I am. I wasn't even close to its tech level. With it, I destroyed the Yor.(That's one heck of a way to say thanks. ) I figured out how to take screens now so I can post a screenshot if you want. Note: its like my 200th turn or somet
I agree with everyone on the "realisticness" of the game. However, there is no proof of aliens in the real universe. So why does there need to be proof of 3 yr lifespan stars? I think the issue here is not how real the game is, but how much work it would take. In my opinion, making the 0class planets usable would be the best "major" change.
