By focus, I mean does the game map focus to the ship instead of staying where you have it? They were going to put an option in to not focus on a ship/fleet. Also, you didn't answer if the game is noticeably faster on big maps. Thanks for any input.

Is the game faster on the large maps with the 1.2 beta? Is there a focus option or better yet, is there a way to focus sometimes and not others?
First off, I enjoy exploring and finding planets, so I tend toward the bigger maps. Well I did, until the slowness of a turn got to be so noticeable. My computer is a 3.2 Gig, 1 gig of memory, using Windows XP Pro. When I say 'forever' in the following descriptions, I really mean 5-10 seconds. Things that are really slow that I can't figure out why? When I have a fleet and I invade the planet, if I hit the -skip- button twice for the invasion, it skips the
I know i can send a colonizer to a planet and the population will go from the ship to the planet, but if the planet has a starport, if I try to launch the colonizer, i can't get it off the starbase without sending pop with it. And how do you get population to a planet if it doesn't have a starport yet? Thanks for the help.
I read that the programmers now believe that the game alwas focusing on a ship/fleet/planet is a problem and that they intend to make an option where the game doesn't focus. That will be a problem also. There are times where you want the map to focus and times you don't. Instead of an either/or option, how about changing the UI so that the button is split into to smaller buttons. Perhaps a and a duo. The button would do what it does now, highlig
I've done something accidently and don't know how to change it. For the last week, the planet/ship window, when showing planets, has been showing the ones with the most tiles to the least. Tonight, it's showing least to most, which means I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see a list of unexplored high value planets, or to see my best planets. Time consuming, at best. I don't know what magic button I pressed on the keyboard or the UI to cause this, but I can't see
Man, talk about some great beginning part of the game ideas. You all have really helped me not only understand the beginning part of the game more, but explained how different parts of the game interact with each other which is helpful during the entire game. My thanks for all the help so far. I can't wait to try the enhanced pop growth to see if it makes a difference.
OK, I started a new game, and used some of the above ideas. Here is my situation.... I have 10 planets of 10 or better Tax rate is 30% Ind Cap is 31% 8 BC in the bank 1 research done in engines, no other done yet Taxes 107 Military 18 Tourism 4 Colony Maint 92 Total 111 Total 110 Nothing built on any of the colonies Oldest colonies at about 1 billion pop Youngest at .5 billion pop Anyone
3. Pop growth has nothing to do with the social spending rates. Unless you're talking about building farms/morale buildings of course. A new colony should be focussed on Social until it has a couple of factories and a starport built. I am confused about this. How do you focus your home planet on something like military or research while focusi
1. What does high morale do besides grow population fast? 2. If research is at 50% at beginning, what do you put military at to get colonies every 2 turns? 3. Set planet focus sliders at 100% social to get pop growth for newly colonized planets? 4. What is your planet layout for 10-12 tile planets? I usually have a starbase, 5 factories, and a morale tile. Put research on the rest of them? Of course i use fewer tiles for factories if I have good tiles to build in
I've noticed that I seem to start the game out pretty equally with the AI, but after awhile, they really out distance me in tech. Not sure why this is, but I'm hoping it's my sliders settings. At the beggining I usually have social at 15, research at 25-30, military at 55-60, to pump out colony ships as fast as possilbe. Later in the game I usually have social at 20-25 and the research and military equal. Before the shooting starts should I be putting my military much lower
I believe you can get Arnorian battle armor if your empire is 'good'. What other unique techs are available for good-neutral-evil alignments?
A 'defensive ship' can only be used on a planet with a starbase, right? Can you send a 'defensive ship' to a non-starbase planet?
I'm pretty new at all of this, but if the suggestion of being good and using the reward from it, armor, is what I think it is, it means the game is long and drawn out while you get your research ramped up, right? I thought the DLs had to be dealt with quick before they got strong. I'm not sure how often they pump out those little ships that blow huge holes in everything, but I don't think I could deal with lots of them running around.
How do you protect your planets and newly colonize worlds from the dreadlords?
How do you get a fleet to guard a planet? If I send a fleet of 4 ships 'into' a planet square, they all 'dock' at the star port and fight singleton instead of all together. Any way around that?
Shameless bump. Can anyone help me with the above question?
I read that in the 1.1 or 1.11 patch, that a lot of new hot keys were added, but I can't seem to find a screen that tells me what actions are mapped to what keys? This isn't a game breaker, of course, but if I can't find something as simple as key assignments, it makes me feel like I may be overlooking all sorts of things in the game. So, where is/are the screen(s) for the key assignments?
For anyone beside a rank beginner, you are correct, I probably shouldn't be using core ships anyway. But I'm afraid not being able to see the core ships may mean that something has been hosed up in the installation from having installed 1.1 then 1.11 in the last 2 day. Another abnormality I've seen is that when ship to ship battles are fought, I'm not getting the screen that should show up and displays the battles. So is anyone else have 'things aren't working like they sho
Nope, I've check using a downloaded this morning edition of the Galactapedia. I have all the tech researched, that it says, for at least half of the core ships, but they aren't showing. I"m afraid you may be right though, and I have no idea what to do about it anyway, since there is no way to know what 'off beat' techs might be needed to get the ships to 'appear'. For sure though, all my techs are at least 5 deep now, no new core ships yet.
Well, I have more questions. I started a new game in a slightly larger universe, after downloading and installling 1.1. My old ships I designed don't appear in the game. No core ships except the beginning ships, the freighter, and the first offensive ship show up, even though I am at least 3 deep and mostly 4 deep in every tech tree. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Hello, I just bought the game and am looking for some links to post for us beginners. I'm sure my confusion mirrors other peoples confusion and all my questions have already been asked and answered somewhere. I'm looking for some tips on 'how' to run your position easily, things easy to overlook after seeing the tutorials and playing a couple of beginner games, things you 'wish you had known' and maybe some suggested orders in what to build first and why. Thanks for pointing me in the
