I noticed a similar problem with one of my components once, but thought I was seeing things. Next time it happens, I'll grab debug.err from both enhanced and non-enhanced rendering.

I like the idea of Creativity finishing a tech, but think the likelihood of it doing so should be less depending on how much research remains. Some sort of sliding, normal scale would be nice.

Providing the ship designer as a stand-alone application would be nice. Hopefully this doesn't count as a "major" item. :)

Could this be intentional? Could the developers perhaps be working under the assumption that running an economy at 100% should be the exception rather than the rule, and almost always result in deficits? It could encourage people to try to remain at peace and collect the "peace dividend", so to speak, while allowing economies to run hot for short periods (if you have money in the bank) to deal with short-term threats.

As someone who pre-purchased TotA, I'm willing to wait until March if that's what it takes. Stardock has shown strong product support (they re-wrote their graphics engine in DA in a patch for goodness' sake), and their software is rock-solid. Good UI, good sense of humor, fun game. Now if only I could get some vendors of enterprise software to do the same... :) (I know, I know, Stardock does enterprise-grade UI development tools, among a couple other things).

In terms of "overpowered or not", does it depend somewhat on how much +research you take? For example, a race with lots of research bonuses will, statistically, get less from Creativity than a race with no research bonus.

Can you upgrade ships received from the Super Dominator ability? If so, then if you have a lot of cash stocked up you could quickly deploy and upgrade a lot of decent ships.

I've noticed that during the first turns of any new game on Suicidal, the AI empires spend their treasury as quickly as possible. I've generally tried a "slow-burn" strategy, where I go with a factories-only build using initially 0%/100%/0% production until factories are online, and 1%/99%/0% once I want to start cranking out colony ships. This has generally allowed me to steadily develop a handful of worlds, but of course I end up well behind the AI in number of colonies and especially techno

I couldn't bring myself to plow through 700 posts, so my apologies for any duplicates. (1) Cloakable (or partially-cloakable) ships (2) Minefields (3) Minefields which slow ship movement (4) Carriers (I know, I know...)

I've noticed some of the debug.err getting posted have relatively low Windows pagefile sizes (< 1GB). If you have the hard-drive space, try setting it to 4GB (min and max) and see if that helps. It's a bit of a brute force approach, but might be worth setting up.

Tracking down a memory leak is a very difficult task to do with tools, much less manually. Let me just say that if the enterprise software I use was supported as well as Stardock supports GalCiv2, I wouldn't push freeware open-source software as much as I do. For goodness' sakes, they just rewrote large portions of their graphics engine to provide better performance for people with older rigs. That kind of refactoring is usually hard as anything to justify to management, even though in the en

More analogous to parking a fleet off of someone's coast. Might not start a war immediately, but it'll sure raise tensions (which it does in-game).

This kind of post-release support--on a game that, frankly, wasn't half as bug-ridden as most released today--is what will bring me back to Stardock when they publish a game in a genre I'm interested in. Fantastic work! Now, if I can only get some of the corporate enterprise software vendors to take Stardock's cue... Oh, and I'm also a huge Rush fan. Oaks and Maples, indeed - hah hah.

When setting up a new game, if you don't set up the other races' abilities by using their points, will they automatically use their points during the game setup? If not, doesn't that put them at somewhat of a disadvantage? Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you're going with an all-factories build, instead of using ability points on research, why not focus them on diplomacy or even use the Super Diplomat super ability? Well-played, and with a bit of luck, you might be able to have an all-factory build with most abilities in production and economics and use diplomacy to keep up in the tech race. You'll probably always be behind by a little bit, but the extra production should give you the ability to throw out enough just-barely-obsolete ships i

I have a similar hang-time, though just when loading (or starting a new) game. My machine is definitely on the low-low end, so my guess has been that GalCiv2 is writing a ton of info to the pagefile (which I've kicked up to 2GB to compensate for the measley 256MB RAM I have). I'll try to post my debug.err file and detailed system specs later.
