.The "borders" in galciv are just your sphere influence. There are no real borders in space, since that would not be doable to control anyway. There are no borders on oceans either.
No, but there are recognized territories and ships can be boarded, seized, and/or fired upon if they enter the coastal waters of another nation without sparking a war. Further, even if that is the way things are, that doesn't mean that it is the way things need to be or even ought to be.
My first reaction when I heard the news was somewhere in the neighborhood of "if they are going to treat me like an enemy, I will be an enemy. I'm playing the game but I ain't paying for it." I had planned to wait until a pirated version of each comes out and get a superior product for free. I don't even have a real interest in playing Mass Effect, I just wanted to make my own private statement that the the CP scheme they are using is wrong and abusive to their customer base and completely co
1. More robust tech editor. I would like the tech editor to allow me to do things like enhance only beam weapons or only armor, to screen out redundant technologies (e.g. if two copies of superior logistics end up in it twice), and to sort by more than just name (eg. sort by technologies that add ship components, planetary enhancements, that alter miniaturization, or what have you). 2. Send a magic patch that will fix the damn blue screen error I keep getting several hours into a gam
Well don't forget that with Stardock the serial Id can only be linked with a single e-mail.
In that case I hope it is an email address I still have access to and not the university address I lost when I graduated.
I'm extremely glad you posted this thread, I had intended to post this reply over at the Quarter to 3 forums in the thread linked to earlier as an excellent discussion on piracy, before I was banned before I could make a single post and all attempts to find out why were ignored. A long one, but I think it contains some points worth recognizing: Greetings. I am one of the myriad of people directed to this board, and to this thread, by the assorted links to it going around the internet. M
I have a couple questions for the staff if they would be so kind to answer. 1. How does the number of stars on the new immense maps compare to gigantic? How do they compare the old gigantic maps before the patch to tone them down? It occurs to me that with so much memory saved through the new planet generation mechanisms, vastly more efficient ship graphics, and the assorted other memory saving steps taken, the number of stars in the big map could afford to be raised substantially; t
Sooner would be better. If you were another company I might go with later, but I believe the game would be better served by a December release. The difference, in my view, is if you release it in December, what are you going to do between then and January? You are going to enhance the AI, iron out the bugs, and address the issues that are sure to come up with any new release. However, if you release the game sooner, that means more people will get it sooner, which means the bugs wi
Again, how is that going to impact the Wonder/Trade Goods system?
any ship of theirs in your space can be blown up without declaring war, thought it will cool relations with whoever's ship you just blew up. Sounds too complex. I'd say the simpler way is: 1) Every ship of an empire that does not have PT with you has to get out, or they are automatically go to war. 2) Either they stay out, or go to war. 3) If you click on an closed territory yourself, you get a warni
I have a question, it may have been answered elsewhere, but how is the unique technology tree for every race in this expansion going to impact the Galactic Wonder and Trade Goods system? Are the Drengin still going to be able to produce the Restaurant of Eternity and Diplomatic Translators or will those things also be available only to certain races?
To be quite honest, I am glad the "no sneak attack" proposal is dead. While the AI has trouble using it, it is still a valid tactic. Sudden, unexpected attacks are simply a fact of military strategy. While two massive fleets lining up on opposite sides and charging each other is certainly an option, it isn't the only one. What this idea would do, I think is limit the options of players who don't build massive fleets. Asymmetric warfare is one of the things I like about Gal Civ 2; I
I'll look again but I haven't seen any button that does that. If there is, that is what I was talking about. it took me a while to see all the new buttons on the DA UI, but i think that testifies to 1) how little read (or look for) instructions, To be blunt, I think this testifies as to how quickly some are to jump to conclusions and assume the worst in others rather than considering t
Yep, indeed there is. In the left pane of the ship function's window, click Automate, see here, Hope that helps That does, a great deal. Thank you much.
Another suggestion, a function for mining ships to auto mine in the same way survey ships can be set to auto survey to save a bit of the micro managing. I thought they already did. Does not clicking "Automate" fulfil this function. Works for me, the ship will build/upgrade the nearest asteroid and then move on...and so on and so on.... Is this not what you mean? I'll
Another suggestion, a function for mining ships to auto mine in the same way survey ships can be set to auto survey to save a bit of the micro managing. Also, an auto colonize option would be nice too, something you can toggle to have all the colony ships you build automatically select the nearest unique world, so you don't have dozens of ships latching onto a single world and all flying at it, then colonize it. This would be extremely useful in the late colonization phase when you've taken al
As a modder always working on creating a bigger, better, longer tech tree (as I always tech rush on gigantic maps and so exhaust the whole thing quickly), one itsy bitsy change I would like to see made is for there to be independent race values for beam, MD, missiles, PD, shields, and armor in addition to the default increases to weapons and defenses for racial abilities. That way I could make a tech like, say, "case hardening" that makes missiles 5% stronger, or "ultra-dense materials" which m
Here is the idea I had that I was working on for a while. I considered watering it down a little, but it might be more practical for the devs to do that, if at all. Note: This might make a better story for an expansion than as a mega-event. _________________ #9 Divine Rapture An entity claming to be a god shows up one day. When the races in the galaxy start acting skeptical about its claim, it proceeds to prove its po
You know the base event where the precursor device sets all nearby planets, including class 0s to class 12s? A mega event that does that to all planets in the galaxy would be a great late game shake up, in particular on the bigger maps. Another universe collides with this one, and for 10-20 turns a number of new items appear in random places throughout the universe. New anomalies, asteroids, resources, even the rare planet will appear in a random location throughout the galaxy. Som
Yes, I once beat them into submission in space and they gave away their only planet to me via negotiation.
I know it isn't going to happen, but the thing I think I would most like to see in the expansion would be Terror Stars as people are calling them, or at the very least reworking starship and component sizes to allow more stuff on bigger ships. That is the one thing that never felt right to me about Gal Civ 2 is that on the small end of the spectrum, you have fighters, one man craft, and on the other you have titanic dreadnaughts, many kilometers long. Why is it that these huge, behemoth, battl
Could someone explain precisely what "streamlining" the tech tree entails? Making it shorter, removing techs, lumping some of the branches together, etc.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/galacticcivilizations2/review.html?mode=web You can see all the reviews there, it does seem like those two UK mags are much, much lower than everything else.
I've read through that guide several times and I could not find a thing about forced events. Anomalies and Ethical Events, but not the forced events. I will look into the file that was mentioned and I will see if they are present there. Also, Events.xml is the file where all the ethics based events are, not the forced events.
Either it's the crappy IE browser I was forced to use to make the post, which wasn't properly refreshing the post, or the changes made in the edit truly didn't take effect for a few minutes. Basically I was just trying to insert the line breaks to make it readable. Indeed, I had to do the same. No offense but the forum coding here is trully h
