I was surprised after 1.2 to see civs not colonizing, even on "Masochistic" in some of my games. I turned off "Randomize AI intelligence" and never had the problem again. I suppose these civs were randomly assigned zero intelligence.

Quixotecoyote, are you sure? When I have the universal translator, and another race doesn't, I'm able to talk to them. I can tell when this happens, because I'm able to sell them the tech. If the Drengin have it but cannot use it, I think that would be a serious bug that would have been fixed long ago.

Hi, This is an interesting discussion. To say of not researching the universal translator, "It's an exploit of a flawed game mechanic", is surprising. It makes me wonder, how many other techs does the human have to get that the AI doesn't, in order for the human not be exploiting? Surely if the Drengin need to extort credts or tech from me that badly, it's their job to research their own Universal Translator? My having to provide it for them so that they can threaten me seems like to

Great discussion! Of the proposals made so far, I think some call for a lot of changes to the AI in the direction of much greater complexity, and some of the ideas are a bit vague. Some (e.g. B in the first post) are both, I think. I find that the AI for each civ is already making trading decisions to its own advantage, and it should be doing that rather than trying to be hard-for-the-human-player. I mean, it should be making things hard for the human player by trading in a way that i

I found this level nearly impossible too. I didn't exactly win this level; one of my AI team-mates did, I only provided him with most of his technologies. In a later mission, Armageddon, I did work out (with much help from others at this forum) ways to deal with the DLs effectively, at least on "Challenging." I don't want to give all my ideas away, then it would be less fun for you. I will offer this: The DLs typically have poor sensor range, poor logistics, low hit points, huge guns,

I recenly bought this game, and I really enjoy it. I was relieved too to find that it would run well on my lowly laptop whose video drivers are two or three years old (no updates available), and the video chip itself is very low end. I just beat the level "Seige" on "Challenging" - that was quite a challenge indeed! That was exciting. Thanks. Best wishes.

You're missing out, my friend. It's a different kind of game when the Dread Lords are involved. I beat this level finally, last night, on "Challenging." That was one heck of a challenge.

Perhaps I've been on this level so long, I merged the first two levels together in my mind. The level I was talking about is called "Siege." It's the first mission in which Dread Lords attack. Please, guys, a word of advice? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm fairly new to the game, and I thought I had the thing beat on "normal" and "challenging" after a few days. Heh. Then I tried the campaign. Then I realized that I didn't understand the economy at all. Now I'm starting to understand it, but not so well that I see a solution to the second campaign mission. The first was doable for me. The second one, I just can't seem to get past. I'm playing it on "challenging," and I get creamed every
