I read the CGW review, and was very dissapointed in its overall tone. Seemed as if he was mocking the game a bit. He touched on some good points, but I swear he was mocking it at points.

Wow, jeez, just because the guy is having a few problems doesn't give the rest of us the right to call him names. Of course, for those of us who live in countries that allow for free speech, then yes, I guess the right is there, but the perogative to execute that right should be weighed against the potential of doing harm. Or to put it simply, you're being too hard
too many words Lol. A agree that I would LOVE it if there was a tiny bit more to the political system, and the ground combat system for that matter. But for the former, there has never been a time for me where I did nothing more but click --CAST VOTE-- and then see that my party wins with 80+ percent. From what I gather th
$ ECONOMY $ In any game where I start with a solid economy I have a great chance of winning because everything else seems to fall into place. More happy peeps (My Yor tend to like farms... they need food to reproduce.. ) = more money and infuence. I think that its rather difficult to focus on research too early, or military in my experience.
Well worded post, and interesting discussion. I also find the existing system easy to exploit at the easy difficulty ratings that I play on now. I would hope that at later difficulty levels that I couldnt ALWAYS get first strike with my Glass Cannon little death swarms that I love. I do PLENTY of damage with my Tiny hulled ships, and no one ever gets to retalliate. Coupled with a good sensor ranged ship, and fast engines. I tend to decimate as I am almost never get attacked
I notice that when I tech to my beloved psycic shredder that I have problems funding my military unless I set up a solid infrastructure pre-empitivly. Maybe you are just better at it than I am, or are making cheaper ships. Ive read a bit from players who are very good, and beating the game at the highest dificulty rating, and it seems as if they are riding the edge of happy people and good money. I mean that they are doing what they can to sqeeze every ounce of both moral and thier ec
So basically you had to update your video drivers (probably havent done in years) and maybe allocate a bit virtual memory (very very few people have to do this). Do you own a car? Do you bitch about having to get an oil change? How about when your mom makes you clean your room?
I finally got around to making a metaverse char (turns out I couldnt with fire fox 1.0) and I finished a game with that char. I see all these other posts from people with thier shiny medals, and am wondering how to get mine to show? Thought it might take a while, and its been close to 24hrs so far. Anyone able to help?
Neat, thks for the responces. All trade goods work empire wide and can only be traded once (per race and you can't aquire same goods twice) Thats good to know. I never traded these thinking them a one time use.
A diplomatic victory that I achieved in beta4 was my highest scoring game. And my lowest scoring game was my technological victory that was the first patch, before 1.1 . Some times I guess its all you have left. It takes a while to get it though, and it is easy. Does anyone have any links as to what the devs had in mind with the difficulty of each victory, and the scoring that goes along with it? That would be a cool read. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gi
Is there a good rule of thumb that any of you guys use to know whether buildings affect the specific planet, or are galaxy wide? I think that its that Capitols only affect the planet you build it, but what about things like the Diplomatic trade goods? Also, does that 25% bonus apply to only one trade? Can you trade any goods multiple times? Just a few things that I was wondering about to tune my game in a bit. Any other tips on planetary improvment building dos o
This is another example of an unpolished game. Yeah, this game should also cook my breakfast...
I agree. I dont see any use for it anytime I am able to get this, nor do I see a reason to make a bee-line for this building. Kinda a cool name though. Wish It was useful some how.
If you only played one game, why would you say that a disproportionate amount of Comps use beams? Fisrt game I played, I thought that maybe it was missles, next game is was drivers. I also thought that the Torians were mege strong now due to thier colonizing, because one game it got out of control. My last game I wanted to complain about how disproportionately strong the Dregnin were, but it was only disproportionate for that one game. I have seen the AI make lots of usele
I believe that it was stated somewhere officially that the AI notices when other Computer players do this, and adjust thier attitude towards them accordingly. I could be wrong, but that is what I understood. Also, I agree that it would make no sense. Who would/could enforce such a thing?
Wow. Stardock
I think that the main arguement that you will get against your idea is that you can start with a select relation to each other races. You could play the Torian, and choose to start at a very hostile level with the Dregs if you wanted to. And as far as when you play against these two races, it is more likly that the Torian will war with the Dregnin, but I think that its more associated with thier ethical allighnment. I agree that t
Mostly, I would buy either. How different would the expansion content be if it came out September, as opposed to Feburary? Id love to see the game showcased in Computergames Magazine, or PC Gamer in a big sprawl with a full release plus expansion.
The strengths of each race seems to apply to early phases of the game more than anything. They dictate how you start your Conquest more than they seem to define a role for the whole game. Your attacks on the game's devs were juvenille and personal. I hate reading posts like that on this site where the people who are making the game seem to take feedback so personally. There aren't any other companys making games like stardock that
I took over a planet today that had two starports when I got it. Whats wierder is after I deleted it, from the galaxy screen, the planet said that I had NO starport... and yet there I was 14 days away from a constructor. I had been playing the game for 10 hours or so straight and thought that I was going crazy for a moment there. And it wasnt the Torians, it was the Iconians. Although, it may have been planet that the Toria
I play most of my games achieving 80% capped taxes, and all of my manufacturing/reseaching running at 100% failrly quickly. I use farms when my approval is at 100% on planets. Yes I use a lot of entertainment buildings/upgrades, but I find that its a solid backbone to branch off of when things start heating up mid game. More pop gets you more money/influence and soldiers. When I send a beefy transpot with 5 Adv Transport moduals o
The first constructor is +1 attack for the starbase for everything (mandatory before you can put defensive modules???) If you had only defence modules on a SB, it couldnt ever dmg anything. You have to have at least one attack for any chance to win. It would be pointless to put defence on a SB b
I made a few just to try them out last game... turns out that you can actually have multiple on one planet. I think that if you were facing an opponent who was very militaristic, and also you were on a small map, then maybe it would be worth a little more. It is a tile that you could use for something else, but a 25% defence isnt bad considering that it scales into more power late game when you have more ships. Might help you bunk
Im finishing up my first Gigantic map (11hrs and counting) and I used gaurd plenty as I was posistioning fleets along my border. It always worked for me EXCEPT for one fleet. It was a fleet ships that the Dregs gave me, and I dont know if that had something to do with it. I could never get survey to do anything that I noticed.
What works best for me is to choose a race that has bonuses that make up for my downfalls. For instance, I tend to have issues keeping people happy, there are plenty of other techs that I want, and I like the high pop for the money. So I like to chose a race that has high moral bonus, or make my own with one. Im a big stickler on balance, being a hard core warcraft 3 player. Honestly, most of my games feel the same regardless of w
