The Good 1. Master of Orion (original was groundbreaking in its excellence, 2nd was better but didnt have the same knock you over with originality as the 1st) 2. Homeworld (in a class of its own, why no one else uses their engine is beyond me) 3. Fallout 1&2 (hilarious and epic at the same time, never a dull moment and more world than you need to beat the game, which means plenty of variety) 4. Starcontrol 2 (all the original goodness plus a great rpg element) 5. Total W

"Well I don't knnow about Lear, but I do know that the Airbus A380, The LARGEST commerical jet ever, does about 8mpg (8000mi range, 1000gal tank). Compared to the very popular Trucks and SUV's in the US, it actually beats some of them(I've seen some fords boast 7 city, 12 highway). Add the fact that you can't fit 500 - 800 people in your Explorer, and suddenly it seems much less hypocritical. [/quote]" Dude sorry to burst your bubble but the A380 actually holds 80,000 gallons of fuel, a

How about a system whereby a constructor is required for the intitial construction and then a convoy system is set up like with the freighters for trade. The idea being that as long as a convoy is running you can spend cash to upgrade your starbases. This would allow players to attack each others convoys in order to isolate starbases from upgrades while at the same time freeing the player from the tedium of building a dozen constrcutors for each starbase.

I too find the use of a singel constructor for each upgrade to be way too time intensive, but from a playability aspect perhaps the most worrying thing is that due to the effort involved their are many upgrades that I rarely ever make just because its not worthi it. Specifically scanners, its just too much effort to build scanning arrays when you can just pop a bunch on a ship and move it anywhere you want. I for one think that scanners should automatically upgrade on starbases, that way you onl

Did you perhaps use a freighter hull as the base for your ship? If so you would only have 1 hitpoint which makes it quite likely that you would lose to a enemy fighter, even a much weaker one. Also I second apoc527's statement, multiple weapons types is generally bad, as is multiple armor types. Sepcialize your ships to beat a certain enemy and the game becomes a cake walk.

Actually you can thank emerging economies like China for a lot of the rise in prices. As those places actually develop a middle class, shock of all shock their people actually want the same level of lifestyle that we in the US and Europe think is our right. Expect gas prices to keep going up as our stations have to compete with the rest of the world for their oil. Of course the nice thing is that when gas prices go up so does supply, because oil that was uneconomical to extract now becomes feasi

Money in the defeated races accounts would be in their currency, without a nation to back it up that currency would be worthless, wether it was in electronic or paper form. If you really want to make yourself feel better just imagine yourself with a mountain of paper money that no one else in the world wants (assuming other races have no need for toilet paper).

The game already models a speed difference in different sized ships via engine size. If you notice, to put the same type of engine on a tiny ship takes less space then on a large ship (or am I just hallucinating?) Anyway their rally shouldnt be any limtiations on speed versus size except that more mass would require more thrust to move. But their is nothing from keeping someone from just putting really big engines on a giant ship and sending it zipping along at incre

Oddly enough I just recieved the tech for neutrality learning center after a conquest and my race's alignment is good. I didnt bother to check if I could actually build though as their was only a couple turns left before my eventual conquest. I guess I will have to try and find that old save and try and build one. Does anyone know if this is possible, is it a bug in the current version? Can you get all of the alignment specific techs through

Do both parties have to have the alliance tech before you can request an alliance from another race? If so its pretty silly, because it leaves the player at the whim of the computer's tech research. Their have been some times when in the face of an overly strong computer opponent I would like to start some sort of grand alliance to counter them but cant even though I have the tech. In my opinion it should just require the asking party to have the tech. P.
