Hmmm, that avatar seems pretty familiar. Glad U like it. Oh and by the way, more scores coming down the pipeline, I just have to finish some more games.

*Sends real bottles of champagne to Stardock and Ironclad* No wait, I forgot, you can't send alcohol through the US Mail. Sorry guys. But I just pre-ordered Entrenchment. You could go out and buy a bottle with the profits. That's just as good, right?

If I just bought the game, I would go straight to TA. TA has everything from the earlier games plus more. There have been so many upgrades to graphics and gameplay that I could never go back. For example, just take a look at how few customizable options there are in the game startup screen in DL (vanilla) compared to TA. I assure you, you will not regret it. Also, if these are your first few games, stick with the Terrans for a little bit. They have the easi

The first 50 turns or so seem like a click-fest. You have few worlds, economy is tight, and there are not many ships to pilot. It does take a while to build up a good infrastructure. However, after a while the game begins to slow down considerably. You have to check the AI's ships positions, constantly check production, manuver your ships to strategic points (offensive or defensive.) and finally, ensure that all your planets have a good balance between economic,
One of the best changes in 2.0 that I didn't really realize was going to make the game so much better was the change in weapon tech costs. It is now quite difficult to get up the weapons tree. Combined with other techs being less expensive (the removal of the big late game tech penalty) and you really end up having to seriously look at other strategies.
Wow, that explains why it now takes me forever to get to Laser III. I thought it was only because

These are only my observations. The game itself is pretty enjoyable. There are just a few things about it that really get on my nerves. Feel free to look up some more responses to help you with your decision.

Ok, like a lot of people, I read the reviews for Spore. Although the reviews seemed kind of mixed I decided to buy the game anyway. Will Wright usually creates some pretty good games. But there are some aspects to this piece of software that really turned me off pretty quickly. First of all, I will not discuss DRM. I am sure that topic has been pounded into the ground so I will leave that one alone. My first quibble was about how the game was set up.&nb

Yep, I'm back. And I have a few new games posted to Metaverse. I'm sampling some of the other races I have not tried yet. I might not post much but I have been watching the Kizinti forum for a while now.

Can I be the first person to report a bug in TPM 2008? (And the Beta isn't even out yet.) If you take a look at the screen shot where the Steven Colbert character is talking to John McCain about high gas prices (image_17.png) there is a typo. It says: "I don't know about you, but the ever-rising gas prices are starting to get on my nerves. My Hummer only gets eight miles to the gallon, and I am starting to worry that I once I have the solid go

I go with the "middle of the road" attitude. I use standby mode. It powers off the computer but it is quick to restart. I don't have to deal with all that initial booting of the system. At the same time, I do try to save power so I don't run up an energy bill for no reason. If I am going to be away for more than a day, I will shut the whole thing off. I am sure the computer will enjoy a fresh boot now and then.

It's funny though. I am usually a good observer as to what the race's weaknesses are and working around them. Need money, get some trade going or buy those market centers. A little weak on offense? Study up on the weapons techs. I also thought that since I have been playing 4X games since Civ I, I had enough foresight to just jump into the game. Or so I thought. Dumbing down the AI and dropping a difficulty is always an option, but I am not ready for that yet. I definitely appreciate the

After a brief recess from playing GalCiv, I'm back again. I was playing that other Sins game. I love ToA but making adjustments to my strategies is proving more difficult than I first imagined. I have been playing DA since it came out and I got pretty good at it. My favorite race to play was the Iconians. I figured I would start with them again in ToA. I am finding very quickly that all my old playstyles will not work. For example, I get two major precu

PC Gamer did a nice section called "History Repeats Itself" (Apr 2008, p. 8) where someone wrote in about how "bad" Crysis is and that Half-Life 2 is so much better. They mentioned the game had a bland storyline, lack of originality, etc, etc... Of course, the next part of the article flashes back to 2005 and displays another letter written by another reader about how "bad" Half-Life 2 is. That reader wrote pretty much the same thing. Moral of the story: No matter how good y
...End of April. I still remember getting the email, claiming it would be released NOVEMBER, LAST YEAR. D:
Hmmm, I also remember people casting their votes to wait and send out a better finished product. Thanks for taking the time for putting out a great product. It was a long wait, but you can never anticipate getting sick or getting overwhelmed with other projects. Patience is a virtue and I am sure that most of us (the other players) will greatly anticipate

I have been playing for a while so I feel that I can help a little: 1. You are going to have to find a balance between expanding and developing. All your new planets start out in the red. You usually have to get somewhere around 1.0M population before things start evening out. Also, bump up that tax slider. At least for a little while, it will keep you from eating up your beginning funds. I keep mine around 49% for a little while. Of course, the more unhappy people you have, the

Galciv or SoaSE??? I say BOTH!!! I have made my decision. I just picked up Sins today. In fact, just after I finish writing this post, I will unwrap the box and pop in my brand new DVD. I look forward to a grand 4X adventure that will keep me up into the wee hours of the night. Congratulations Stardock, you just got another $40 out of my wallet!

I would guess that you are so advanced that the techs they stole from someone else, you already have. It is nice when they steal weapons techs from the Drengin that I have not bothered to research yet. Especially when the Drengin are being particularly nasty and won't trade with me. I have not traded with them enough to know if there is some sort of algorithm that causes them to desire planets more than other techs. I usually get away with trading techs for techs or money for techs.

A very good article indeed. I guess it helps to vent frustrations every once in a while. I may not be a developer, but I know the value of a hard days work. If someone came up to me the next day and said everything I just did was "stupid." I would be a little angry. Programs may be buggy at first and not work on every system but I can imagine that it is hard to make something that works on different machines with different hardware configurations. If you have an Xbox or Playstation, they a
