I have to disagree, respectfully mind you. I think its comparing apples and oranges in terms of what the games were supposed to do. Gal Civ has an emphasis on empire building more then MOO did. And I disagree on the Rome Total War as well. The turn based section strategy section of that game really wasn't that challenging I thought. And the tactical combat tended to dissolve into the "line up your horde and fling them into battle" problem t

I've noticed the Torians seem to be game out in one of two different ways. Either they gobble up a lot of planets at the start and inevitably turn into a monstrous killing machine empire that engulfs any civilization next to them... or they get a handful of planets and become really nice peace loving folks who go out of their way to establish trade routes and otherwise be nice. Bottom line, you have to keep an eye out for the Torians mid g

Mine would be utterly and hopelessly bankrupting my Empire on the fifth or sixth turn of the game. I had the option to build one of the truly early Galactic wonders and for giggles I clicked on the buy button to see how much it would cost. After being appropiately impressed I absent mindedly clicked away... or so I thought. I am certain you can all guess what happened. Yes... I was the proud owner of an early and fairly useless at that point galactic

Well one of the big selling points for the small fighter groups is that they are fairly cheap and quick to produce. They won't ever have the range of options that a bigger ship can boast of though. So its quantity and cheapness vs quality and toughness. I've had success in making swarms of small fighters stuffed to the gills with weapons and spending a bit extra to upgrade them to the latest and greatest weaponary when it rolls off the line. I still pr

I had this happen once, you just keep clicking on no don't start a war and it eventually agrees to stop. Take the ship off auto explore, steer it around the space station and then turn it loose again. Course when that happened to me it naturally picked the most powerful Civ in the game to try and pick a fight with. Just to keep me on my toes I suppose.

Well done and an interesting read. I've usually settled for throwing my gear on the ship for what I want that class to do and not really paid attention to how it looks (the bowling shoe ugly theory of ship design). But adding in the little details is certainly an option and can be a lot of fun I'd imagine.

Reply to UP useless? in Ideas

The game I just finished the UP was very important in what happened. I was going for an influence win and the UP suddenly started rolling out limit the number of modules on starbases every single time. Thankfully my influence let me vote each measure down.

Gosh I feel like I should apologize for finding the game fun. Thankfully that helpful link provided to the other thread made me realize I'm just a really lousy gamer and thats the only reason I find the AI fun to go up against. Hypothetically speaking, if I don't believe Game X is better then GC 2 can I burned at the stake as a heretic? Even if I played said game in question and didn't like it near as much? All kidding aside... sorry you fo
