The more the individual races become differentiated, the better. I like this system.

I'm glad to hear this, because... A) Who doesn't want to see more Stardock games? B) I'm a Michigander, and we COULD use more jobs. I'd consider applying for one of those new positions if my lab at MSU wasn't already getting a $550-million expansion: http://www.scienceandjobsformichigan.com/
Kudos to all Stardock employees... you've earned it!
GalCiv II already has points of interest... planets and starbases tend to be where ship activity is focused. And asteroid fields can provide an interesting obstacle in a pre-made map.
I haven't played it myself, but the guys from Maximum PC have. In their article about the hyper-advanced planetarium now open in San Fran, this is how they described the control interface: "Finally, we were allowed to enter the main control room behind the planetarium seating to check out how the real-time navigation works. Surprisingly, the controls for the Uniview program worked much like navigating through a game of Sins of the Solar Empire!" Full article link below..
OK, now I have to look into this. I've played the original King's Bounty and every Heroes game, and was fairly pleased with HOMM 5 (short description: a pretty HOMM 3), and you say this is prettier? Of course, Hero development and tactical combat are what make the game great, so I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip, Annatar11!
A Ja'far salute for Hammond of Texas!
I always play in icon mode, having set the slider so low so the 3d graphics never show. To reinforce what others have said, the models are very pretty, but the icons are more informative! From a strict strategy perspective, I like the icons better... reminds me of a board game!
I did a fresh install from SDC after deleting the my games folder... I'll try again tonight...
Ditto the strings not found... Altarians start with a ton of advanced techs. Also, don't Arceans get a "lite constructor module"? It didn't show in the shipyard.
I also have the String Not Found... in fact, I have a ton of them in the "Game" screen under "Options". Also on the shipyard. That's all I've seen so far. I did a clean install of 1.9 after uninstalling and deleting all the folders I could. I'm running Vista US English. In addition, I started a game with the Altairans, and they started with all kinds of really advanced techs, like Dark Energy. Also, I saw no "lite constructor module" available for the Arceans.
Thanks! I'll check it out. For some reason, I didn't notice it in the modules list...
I apologize if I'm wrong, but while playing the Arceans last night, I expected constructor modules to be cheaper (implemented in beta 6a). My initial impression is that they weren't cheaper, though I haven't had time to empirically confirm that. Can anyone prove me right (or wrong)?
/salute as stardock's flag rises up the pole
The Beta is running great for me, but I seem to have lost the "your ship destroyed this ship" and vice versa reports at the beginning of each turn. I still hear about finished construction, new spies, etc. Is this a new feature? Also, I'm not entirely clear on the new options on the governor screen... I was hoping for an option to have all planets building ship X to redirect to rally point Y. It looks like there's an option to have ALL X (including those built) go to Y. I tried it o
My God, it's full of stars.
I throw in my two cents of gratitute as well! I've just been thinking that it's time to remind Stardock how much we love GalCiv2. It's so DEEP strategically, and I've actually had to carefully plan (and revise) my every move to beat those pesky AIs. I'm now up to Obscene, we'll see how it goes. I'll sum up GalCiv2 the same way I did Spider-man 3, with one word: Awesome. (Your results may vary)
Tell me if I'm seeing things: In fierce combat with the Yor, I found that the 3-movement restriction in their space was really cramping my style. No problem, I thought, I'll just take some planets and extend my cultural borders into their territory. So I took two worlds by their lonesome between our territories. The next turn, those borders had not moved. The turn after, they started to recede at a creep. It was many turns before my influence had extended to cover my two new worlds
Tral, I've run into the same problem. Two individual ships on the same tile will cause them to disappear. Same with ships and starbases... I thought someone had destroyed my morale-mining base, then realized it was stacked with a cruiser, causing both to vanish!
I've had this happen as well. The Iconians destroyed my econ resource mining base in peacetime. I checked immediately to see if they'd declared war (since the popups aren't working) but no dice. I checked to see if attacking one of their ships would result in war, and it would. But I think I was able to attack the original offender without repercussions. I hesitate to say it, but... a rogue fleet?
When trying to play "Classic Galaxy", I got to the Select Opponents screen, which showed 5 opponents up top but 6 opponents at the bottom. I was unable to change the opponents at top, so I went on to play the game... it went to the loading screen, blacked out, back to the loading screen, then CTD. Following are a few notes from my games so far, but first I'd like to say: sorry if these have been discussed elsewhere, and DA has got me playing late into the night again. Thanks, Stardock
I'm glad to hear that bonus tiles are back... I started my first game of DA last night, and didn't find ANY for several planets. I was worried. For me, bonus tiles are one of the most fun parts of the game! There's nothing quite like the thrill of "discovering" some on your new planet. Plus, they give planets a unique character, helping distinguish one from the next. Then the name of the planet really MEANS something, like I know Skowbo III is my bread basket (pop/econ world due t
Throwing my hat in the ring... Stardock has introduced tons of great additions for Dark Avatar (without upping the price? Are they MAD?), and lots of people have suggested what they'd like to see. I gotta say, I like the idea for nebulae that someone had. Space terrain that would lower sensor range (hidden ships!) and possibly speed as well. The asteroids will be an interesting barrier on the map, but I think pretty blue or pink clouds of dust that could hide an invasion fleet would be super
