@ Mr. Wardell (Frogboy) This website (as I would assume other sites owned by Stardock) headlines everytime you give an interview or other appearance where you essentially paint DRM as evil and as a practice abhored by Stardock. There have been many such occassions. I simply feel that the solution Stardock uses, which is perfectly legitimate by the way, is DRM. I think that it is wrong of you to paint the entirety of the rest of the PC gaming industry as being so obsessed with stopping

With all due respect, I think Mr. Wardell should get in the practice of practicing what he espouses before assuming to tell all of the PC gaming industry how they should run their businesses. His "Gamer's Bill of Rights", in addition to his comments in this interview, has more than a few hypocrisies. His 2nd "article" is "Gamers shall have the right to demand that games be released in a finished state." In addition to this he mentions in the interview something to the effect of how wi
I think the mere fact that you can say you are on track to release 2 expansion packs in 1 year shows you guys are just making them as quickly as possible with a limited number of features. Dark Avatar, for example, added no gameplay value for me. The only difference in my games were that there were asteroids that hardly made a difference and some planet types which are more of a slight gameplay change rather than something major. Obviously, if Stardock had wanted they could ha
Looks good. However, since you guys are now further distinguishing the races, why not go ahead and distinguish between population of one species as opposed to another species and have that factor into invasions? I really think that is one of the biggest things still missing from this game. Oh and maybe even distinguish between military and general population (although I think it's unlikely that will happen). <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" bord
Yes, it must be a huge corporate conspiracy! Either that, or maybe as a game developer, Stardock actually does appreciate all the gaming-friendly things Vista has, not the least of which is the standardization Microsoft is trying to bring with DX10 that will make their lives developing PC games a whole lot easier... Which could it be... I wonder...
The point of making this post was to bring people's attention to the game... If more people know about it, more people might help with it and it might get finished sometime sooner.
Have any of you heard of the FreeOrion Project before? It is an open-source 4x game in the style of Master of Orion II. I discovered it a long time ago, and it is updated very infrequently, but from looking at the forums the project still seems alive and well. I thought that since GalCivII is the definitive turn based space strategy game at the moment, some of you might be interested in seeing this other project or perhaps even helping out. The wiki is not that informative, b

I see that ship intelligence center shows crew compliment. If you guys have done that, why not go the extra step of allowing the capture of enemy ships somehow? It would probably only require that an extra component be added to a ship to allow it to capture enemy ships, then you could just have it do a random roll and compare the two ships crew counts against each other.
It seems a little odd to me in that this game coming out when it is seems like it would be competing with Dark Avatar when it is released. I'm sure Stardock doesn't want that, but I'd imagine there's some people who would only want to purchase one space strategy game in that general timeframe next year.
The potential benefits are so huge of offering tactical combat in a sequel, that I think it would be foolish not to do it. Personally, I know more than a few people who were huge MoO2 fans but didn't really get too into GalCiv 2 because they didn't have the same level of control (mainly tactical combat and all the customization that goes with it).
I really hope that they do streamline the tech tree. Get rid of the ridiculous laser 1-5 type techs that clog up the weapons and defense branches and come up with new, interesting techs to replace them (or just leave them out altogether).
Congratulations on your child. Live long and prosper.
Frankly I don't think the expansion adds enough to the game to be worth $30. Most of the changes are relatively small/simple modifications that won't drastically make the game more fun. If they were planning on adding to the tech tree, or perhaps renaming/reworking some of the techs to not be so linear and so useless at times (Laser 1-5) I might consider it some more. From what they've said about espionage it doesn't seem like they've beefed it up enough to be worthwhile. So what if
Could you guys please do something about your bland and boring tech tree also? It's one of the most annoying parts of the game for me that the tech tree is so linear and repetitive.
I'm all for tactical battles and more advanced ship design (which would of course neccesitate a better tech tree as well), but frankly, I think your idea of having similar outcomes whether you fight the tacitcal battles or let the computer fight them is unrealistic. The whole "point" of having tactical battles is putting it in a human's hands; giving you that chance to use skill and ingenuity to take your crappy little ship and destroy the gigantic capital ship hovering above you. I think MoO2 a
I'd like to see some form of tactical combat, some utlilites that can be put on ships that do more than either defend or attack (like the varied utilities in MoO2 that often had unique even non-military effects), a way to use all the class 0 planets, the tech tree perhaps reworked a little to be more interesting and less bland, and definitely more portraits (race and flag) to choose from.
Wasn't it supposed to be out at the end of March? And then be out the week after that? And then be out last week? And then definitely be out this week?? Maybe you should just change it to "When it's Done" to stop getting everyone's hopes up.
I assume you're referring to Civ 4, as I know that they misprinted which CD is which for it, and also because I've had the exact same issue with the CD not being recognized by the game when trying to start it up. The only solution I found was to download a no-CD crack, it makes it a lot easier just being able to turn on the game anytime I want to.
Does nobody have any thoughts on what I said?
I realize that this has been discussed before by people, but whenever I have looked at these boards there is never a major topic about it, so I just wanted to give my opinion on this subject. It may be a little lengthy, so grant me a little patience. Frankly, I think that the tech tree is by far the weakest part of Galactic Civilizations II. It is bland, uninteresting, extremely linear, and the weapon tech treess are unnecessarily large. I r
