You are probably thinking of Star Control. You get a Precusrors ship and can send probes to planets to collect resources to buy new ships(allied types that you have garnered) and upgrade your Precursor ship. they carried that series to 3 or 4 games then stopped. I personally think it is one of the classics of the space genre. I would love to see a new release.. increased graphics and real time tactical combat(which it had, but the engine for it was , is pretty antiquated)... but I wo

I agree with mikeswi. In fact one of the last posts indicated a script for doing exactly that was in the works for the next release. I think that was maybe the last official post. Unfortunate really. Cheers!

Ship captains would be nice... I believe that the maximum radius of travel allowed by life support systems is also meant to simulate maximum supply lines. This is ultimately a large scale strategic simulation after all... no reason to allow micro-mangement to rule it(though adding ship captains could be argued into micro-management territory.. but its still too cool to miss, so some small amounts will be okay <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALI

Reply to Fleet battles in Modding

I really like Holivers general idea for combat. Real Time combat would be a little too much.. this is a Strategy game, not nesecarily a tactical one. Having said that however, giving general orders to your fleet and letting the rest go cinematically(that particular camera setting I think is not so good btw), wouldn't violate that broad game view. Additionally it could certainly be an optional component that could be turned off in the options screen, so as not to bog down those who don't want to

I am in opposition to evident popular opinion. One of the things that amazes me is that this game didn't ship with Multi-player built in...over 80% of the bestselling games of the last decade had multiplayer options of some sort or another built in or added in an expansion. I love multi-player in strategy games. Love it! Its truely the best way to play with, and humiliate my friends. I was sorely disappointed when I discovered this game didn't have it in. Especially after d

Cough... People with German names or decent are not by default "nazi".. frankly if I cared more I would probably be upset, even if it was intended as funny... which it ain't... it was in poor taste. ANYWAY, Yes, there is always a risk of breaking something in-game when manipulating the files therin.. but luckily, XML is really simple and easily repaired, generally. But there is always your back-up... you did make a back-up, right? <img src="http://images.stard

I like the idea that anomolies will randomly continue to occur.. after all, space is reaaaallllly big. Even if you found an anomoly at some point in a certain regoing of space.. certainly does not mean there aren't more.. you could have just misssed them.. and with the number of spacefaring races.. space "garbage" will inevitably build up irregularly. making survey scouts and modules useful endlessly. Cheers!

You could fix it yourself? ...\Data\English\GC2types.xml Search for your blaster and edit the values under it... Waiting for developers to fix somethign you can fix yourself is silly Now.. waiting for them to release the source code, or a comprehensive editor for true modding of this game.. thats priceless(what exactly does enhanced modding in 1.2 mean anyway?) <br

That sounds an aweful lot like a full mod editor Not that I would complain... The ability to randomly generate a map would be great. I just skimmed through your website and see you have a topic on scripting maps... excellent! I just didn't notice it in this post. hopefully it will be available in a release coming soon! Cheers!

I think part of the issue is that component size are rated by percentage of the Frame size... so the HD mk3 size is initially rated at 10 at a hull with a size of 50(then the miniturazation bonus is added after it is attached to the ship, or is miniturization added to the initial size of the hull? I think that more likely..) anyway, when you set the hull size to 1000, you multiply the size of the drive to match its initial size % .. so with miniturization a Large hull has 100 size, but the initi
