Oh, and regarding whether or not the Russians really can't ever do nothing right, one word: Andrei Kirilenko.

"In Russia, the security software protects the program from YOU!" Shame about UbiSoft...I'm another who's purchased every HoMM title and expansion, it's been like my Solitaire or Free Cell for years, a great time-waster. But I can't see putting that on my system. Hopefully, publishers will come to accept: However effective or economical the copy protection software, it
Yes, it was Swift. And there are some good ideas here... 1) Option to just blast the hell out of a planet rather than 'invade', decreasing output, morale, population. %) Option to "Blockade", using regular fighter ships or special ships? Reduces to 0 all output to opponent's empire. a) Option to research/develop DEATH STAR. Boo yah!! Ultimate EVILE!! Completely wipe out planet, with across-the-board negative consequenses for
Hmph. So some people are building 'huge networks of starbases' and stuff?? Dang. I've only played a couple of games (just got it) and I've ignored the starbases, other than to take advantage of resource bonuses in my starting territories. I have NOT noticed any penalty for my deficiency in that area, though I guess I will need another game played w/ the different strategy as a control case. In both games, all my production
Well, if it's any reassurance to anyone, I was getting the 'mismatched email' error, and it is corrected now, though I recieved no notification email, and the ticket still shows 'open'. Game installed and plays, so maybe...check the SDC periodically?
Even though I have corrected my 'account information' so that the email address matches the one on my order, the Stardock application will not download the game files. This is a known issue and I have submitted a ticket, but no response (yes, yes, yes, 'two business days'. which could be Monday, I guess.). So I am in a situation where the game that is so proudly non-copy-protected is unavailable to me after I've paid for it. I'm not finding
Cool (and thanx for the link, I really did just find the site). I imagine sports sims are unlikely, that's just a sore point with me. But I do like the idea of of Stardock taking their obvious virtues, skills and marketing model, and developing an RPG. Maybe even a JUST PLAIN RPG, not a MMORPG. I realize that's heresy, but some people don't like the ongoing payments, and some of us are quite content to single-play 'against the program
Ho-kay, I haven't read all the way through the forums, and still haven't played the game, so I don't know if this has been exhaustively addressed already, but here goes... I found this after it was linked (as a software marketing/anti-copy protection story) by both /. and Techdirt. Wonderful to see somebody actually taking steps towards the 'alternative distribution models' that are all the rage in STORIES about copy protection but
Huh. I was just going to download it, on the 'more-money-direct-to-Stardock' theory...then it occurred to me that maybe it's a GOOD thing for their brick-and-mortar sales to be higher? In the long run, I mean. They ARE a part of the 'gaming software publishing business', and store sales add clout. Also saves me $5....hmmmm.... Ah well, I'll go to the local CC. It's like a coin toss...if they have it, I'll buy it, if not, come home a
