can i install and play my archived galciv 2?Yes. If the archive file is made with Impulse, you'll be able to install from the archive file and boot it up without a connection. So just burn your archive on a disc with the Impulse installer and you'll be ready-setty-spaghetti.
gotta love stardock! :CONGRAT: i hate the idea that my purchased game might stop functioning some time. let it be stardock switches off their servers in 15 years, stardock doesnt exist anymore or

@sanchonino yeah, i gave impulse a try and it worked. maybe sdc isnt supported anymore ;-) what i asked myself when using impulse is: What is activate.exe? I always thought (and in fact that was what made me buy galciv 2 in the first place) galciv 2 doesnt have a copyprotection? what if this online activation fail one time in the future or i dont have an internet connection: can i install and play my archived galciv 2? "no cds, no hassles, no nonsense" ?!
i want to add that i also tried to disable firewall and antivirus.
Hi! The "Sticky: Getting the Game downloaded" Thread seems to be broken? ill post here. Yesterday i decided to redownload the complete game with all fixes and addons and deinstalled it. I started the download, and its downloading but keeps downloading gc2.sdc regardless how often it reached 100%. Again and again and again. A real bandwidth killer. How can i stop that? Things ive tried so far: - Reinstalling stardock central with an recent version from the stardock page
the piracy stuff is a crazy topic. i personally think its not a big deal. sure, ppl pirate games. but, if you have the money, would you pirate? no, i dont think so! and when you dont have the money you wouldnt have bought it anyway. see, i definately KNOW how to pirate games. because i did it when i was a teenager without money and i like to play my games without copyprotection (aka "that damn cd from the cd rack somewhere in the drive") today. BUT! at least since like 10 years
i didnt expect SUCH a clear poll result. wow. im with the masses.
kryo: your advice is likely the solution... with the box checked it says "Installing GalCiv2 1 of 7" and not "1 of 6" anymore. Weired that Twilight showed up in the first place
im trying to reinstall the whole application from scratch lets see what happens... edit: thanks for your advice ill try to find a solution.
cant install the beta. it downloads gc2_Twilight.sdc over and over again. when it finishes at 100% it starts again at 0%. ive started it this morning and wanted to start playing now, but its still downloading gc2_Twilight.sdc @ 800kb/sec. somethings wrong over there. latest stardock downloader. restarting the downloader/computer dont fix it.
mmmh... as i remember i voted "no" multiplayer... nevertheless i would buy it i think. i kinda changed my mind
here too. account information is invalid. maybe a sdc problem not a galciv2 problem?
i wonder whether the AI does this to grow the population and to change the buildings after that?
this is still happening in 1.1 just to let you people know
from what i read here i think its not only your fault psion. i dont know in which way you flamed but being nice and gentle is better in every situation. if things get bad the one who acted right is the moral winner. okay, your problem: if your card runs other games for hours without any problem its very unlikely the card is broken. its more likely a compatibility problem. to save stardock: its not easy to write working games for EVERY hardware-combination outthere
okay, it does work now. i needed to deinstall SDC and download the whole game again. just updating was not possible. its okay for now, but nevertheless there is a bug somewhere which occurs under certain circumstances...
no way. everytime i try to install music, tutorials and movies are deleted by the installer somehow. ill try to deinstall everything including sdc and download everything new. i hope that after that i dont end up with a empty music folder again im beginning to hate 1.1 everything ran so smooth before.
SDC Version: 2.32.398 build 129 GalCiv2: 1.10.027 Movies: 1.0.013 Multimedia: 1.0.042 Tutorials: 1.0.015 as read in SDC as "installed". Empty Folders after Patch (and NOT before): "Event Music" "Movies" "Movies\Tech" "music" "sfx" edit: LOL! i just tried to archive my "Movies" with SDC. It created a Archive in no time and guess how big it is <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/s
i installed from scratch. 1) i restored Galactic Civilizations II_1.0X.010_03.06.2006.sdc 2) SDC started to download movies multimedia and tutorials. 3) SDC started to download the latest update. -> music, movies and tutorial is gone BEFORE (i do not remember very well when, but before i started the game after 3)) the movie, music and tutorial folders were FULL of files. something with the update or SDC is wrong. current state: <br
Hi! ive bought the game a while ago tried the game (run nice except 2-3 crashes and some minor bugs while playing 2 weeks) and decided to wait for 1.1 before gaming like mad (as i did with moo2 ). today i updated through sdc and came up with a strange behaviour. the game ran nicely but there were NO music, NO effects and NO Tutorials (and no opening movie) in the game. why? i tried to reappl
Download "StartUp Control Panel" (use google) and you can check all boot startups very easy. additionally you can download sysinternals freeware tools like "process explorer" and "autoruns" (and maybe the registry/network/file monitors) to get almost full control whats running any time. if you want the full package get the things above + hardware firewall, personal firewall and regulary updated antivir. but one thing is needed tha
unfortunately it seems that the debug.err is deleted on every crash and not rewritten. my last crash occured just some minutes before. i was creating a campaign game and alt-tabbed out of the game to surf the internet while the game was on the briefing-screen of the very first mission. when after some time i alt-tabbed back it says that the application encountered a error and needs to be closed. my debug.err: Debug Message:
the forums edit function is bugged... i wanted to add the fact that i cant upload by debug.err to the forum and i dont have webspace. i htink the crash error reports in my post are quiet useless this way regards marcel
Hi! Great game. Unfortunately i encountered some bugs in the last time. i will describe all i can remember here. ok: - 1 crash to desktop. - 1 freeze on diplomatic screen while talking to the yor. i played with the options while suddenly the game freezes (including the animated portrait) while mousecursor and music still functioned. taskmanager was callable but covered by the game so that i cant see where
in germany it isnt released yet (thats why i imported... this and the fact that i fear that the localization dont conserve the humor very well) but on amazon.de the game is listed on rang 29... this is quiet good for a not advertised and not released game... i think. i actually think about buying it in german too. to have a box and to see the german version <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="
i think there are just 2 possibilities: a) the formulas are just bugged: i didnt tested yet whether my ability REALLY adds that percent to my actions it promises. if there is +20% of combat and i got -10% there would be a bug. such things needs to be fixed asap. i can understand why people would complain. but nothing to whine about, since stardock doesnt let their customers alone. b) the formulars doesnt work the way some individu
