An update... played a couple more games at B3 and at least 4 more at B4 - Haven't seen the Snathi even since, so can't comment on that. - Minor races aren't filling their orbit queue completely - Minor races still aren't upgrading any starbases - Just finished a "Tough" game in which only the Drath had researched "trade" and ZERO races (including minor races) had researced "Alliances"....after 8 years. - Mining ships... using the "auto" feature... don't lik

Hrmmm... I'm running a 6 year old 2.8ghz P4 processor with 1gig ram and a Radeon video card with 256meg ram. No problems running this game. Even ran a 9 major race/8 minor race, immense galaxy game to its conclusion...9 hours later.. without any failures. Like Phaedyme, my next upgrade will be to quad core. Wish ddr3 memory wasn't twice as expensive though. In the mean time, my system is still running better than many newer systems ....

Minor races: - still fill their orbiting queue with constructors, never move them...rendering the race incapable of deploying any military craft. - ignore gifted ships (even when dropped off at planet first...so no "out of range" issues) - never research the "Alliances" tech - never upgrade starbases - Snathi tech stealing event - game message says they are interested in a planets for tech trade, yet they treat all thier techs as too important to trade. Almost a year ago I posted a thorough example of AI's stagnating their growth due to stupid mistakes (spending all their money making 60 freighters). That example addressed major races. I took a few months off from the game, came back, updated GCII and started a crippling gigantic universe game with minor races. 5 minor races started the game; 4 filled up their starport with constructors and never did another thing in the game. 4 never even moved gift ships delivered to the

I get sidetracked by a MMOG for a couple months and the forums get a complete facelift! Not a bad look at all. Looks like my timing couldn't be better to update to the new patch and see what other changes have been made to the game.

My last couple dozen games have all been Tough difficulty. I agree with the "planet building" comments..while much better, there's just too many costly mistakes (or the planet is changed incorrectly to combat difficult situations). I've lost two games due to the most horrible starting positions. Most of the wins were decided by mid-game and only a couple were undecided going into the last year. I'm getting near mid-game on my first Painful attempt. If the Terrans ever

I think Ohalland's on to something... The more resources the AI has to work with, the tougher they become. Set everything to abundant. You might try to choose only the good, or only the evil races as opponents and then play the opposite alignment. The one time I chose every evil morality option I was ganged up on by 4 other races and stomped into oblivion within 2 years. Tough is t

But seriously, tough is great for learning the mechanics. First you get slaughtered, then you learn to defend yourself, and then you learn to adapt and understand the mechanics. I started out playing my first 5 games on "easy." I won all 5, most of them without a challenge, but I learned something new every game and spent those 5 games simply

the neutrality all tiles available doesn't actually give all tiles available. Suralle... I think you are misinterpreting the neutral benefit. "All" tiles is a bit subjective... it's really all improvable tiles. ie: all tiles that could be improved via terraforming, etc are available as soon as you choose a neutral alignment. All the be

It's 'painful', rearranging conquered planets, as the AI is still very poor when it comes to planetary development, seems to not bother building anything on some planets now or building at a very slow pace. Actually, I've found the planets are fully developed with only the occasional improvement taking over a bonus tile that could have been be

Ok.... I've since updated my sound drivers and even updated my dual core drivers while I was at it. Problem still exists, though intermitently. I can quick save then go to the main menu and quit there... works fine, even before updating my last couple drivers. Whatever the difference is between quitting from the main menu and getting the "one more turn won't hurt" screen is where the lockup occurs.

Hmmmn at a glance it looks to me like you need to update your sound driver as it may well be that causing the issue. i had the same with GCI and that turned out to be a sound card issue. I've thought of updating the sound card drivers...just been postponing it since there's been zero issues until now. I'll probably update and see what happens.

Repeatable system lockup after quick saving then immediately quitting the game. Exit routine never finishes and the GC2 screen never goes away. First time it happened I was unable to CNTL-ALT-DEL/End Task successfully and had to power down the system and reboot. Second time, C-A-D was successful in closing out the GC2 screen (stuck in a "not responding" mode). I attempted to post bug yesterday, but forum would lockup when I pasted the debug.err file into the text area. As a precau

Ya the Fog in this game needs some more work. For instance once you've seen a planet or starbase, you forever know it's status. IE what's in orbit on that planet, who owns it, or that the starbase was built/destroyed. In early game, I'd agree with you completely. However, once you've reached mid game and a decent level of intelligence on a sp

In an attempt to keep the Iconians from wiping out the Drengin, I sent in over 60 constructors to build two fairly complete military starbases in Drengin territory. I gifted the starbases to them and still have full sensors from the starbases without any other of my ships present.

Over the last few days I've sent in a handful of exception emails. The next to last generated a "permanent failure" email response as well as a real reply. My most recent attempt (failure info below) has now failed twice. I am using the email address and subject line supplied by Smart Exception. For some reason emails are having difficulty finding their way through to gc2bugs. The original message was received at Sun, 4 Jun 2006 10:09:37 -0400 (EDT) from smtp4.mail.ctc.net [1

I've already emailed in the save game, this post is just an FYI to everyone: Well after I had chosen Neutral Alignment a UP resolution gave me a newly habitable planet. Unfortunately none of the planetary tiles requiring upgrades were automatically upgraded. I did happen to have the first upgrade tech and did select a tile to upgrade, but by the end of the game none of the other tiles ever realized they were supposed to auto upgrade. I've no doubt that I could've resear

BOTF for $40-$100???!!! LOL It's a nice time-consuming game, but it's not all that (yes, I do have it currently installed on my XP...works fine). The critisicims are valid. BOTF takes forever to get moving and once you've figured out what ships work best, the AI won't be able to keep up with you. Late game turns take forever. The Borg are wimps (7 Federation Dreadnaughts will destroy a borg every time... if you have 9, you won't even lose a ship.....6 cloaked Romula

Just completed a second Metaverse game that got flagged as a cheater game since upgrading to 1.2 beta. First game I did not use the new mods folder, second game I used the example mods folder. Both were flagged as cheater games. I have already emailed the first save game in and will email the second game in as well.

The Dev's aren't here 24/7 and it IS a holiday weekend. Hopefully they are home and will "play" with us starting Tuesday. You have an interesting question, but I would suggest "bumping" it sometime Tuesday morning.
