There's nothing random about the ground invasions. If the invasion is 25v5, you kill 5x as many troops as you lose. So your 1000 troops can kill up to 4999 troops and win. All of the soldiering and tech numbers just modify the single random roll you make to determine the outcome of the fight. Now how are the advantage numb

The AI could be smarter about this. It also needs to take tech into account more. Often an AI will believe it is militarily superior to me because it has a high number of low tech ships, despite an enormous difference in tech. High defensive values can mean that my ships are almost undestroyable from the AI's point of view, and yet he still declares war.

I haven't seen this published anywhere, and the change log that I have after installing Beta 3 still references Beta 2. Did I just miss this or has it not been put out?

I think we all understand the value of default values that reflect the needs of most gamers, and particularly those who are not computer savy. Offering a pop-up to all users asking to "update" to a Beta build is probably not the best way to go about this.

alien ambassador tell you why he wont go for it and what you could do to make it happen. Yes, and also have them remember past gifts. In the campaign I've had situations where I have given 3 major techs to the Altarians (Medium Scale Building, my best lasers, etc.) because I wanted them to be strong

A lot of research branches aren't present. I'm assuming that they will become available as you progress throught he campaign.

I haven't encountered the Dread Lords in the campaign yet (I just started that mission.) Is it possible that they have very long range sensors in addition to their other souped up abilities?

I'm playing the 1.1 Beta (not beta-2) I gave a ship that still had movement points (in fact had not been moved at all) to a minor race. Later in my turn the game attempted to select the ship for me, but I no longer owned it. This resulted in some bizzare select/unselect loop, which I could only break by selecting something else of mine or ending my turn. You cannot scroll away because everytime the ship re-selects you are focused to that

also I'd like to be able to demand tribute from AI players just as they demand it from me. You can. Just speak to them and go over to their side & add tech or money or whatever. Put nothing on your side. If you're friendly it'll say "Hey buddy can ya help me out?" and if not it'll be more

I would like to suggest some interface improvements. I'm sure that some or all of this is duplicate, but there's no way I can read all of the posts before posting, sorry. SHIP OPTIONS - I would like to be able to upgrade a ship in a fleet, or in orbit. - I would like to be able to see how far a ship can reach before I start moving. - I would like to be able to create a fleet in orbit and launch the whole fleet. Launch All ha

First I would like to say thank you for posting such an intelligent criticism of the game. Frankly I was expecting a troll when I clicked on the thread. You bring up some good points, particularly with the AI's limitations. The game is still fun for me, and I'm hoping that Stardock will continue to improve things. Perhaps if they read about the raider problem, we might expect the AI in 1.2 to address that. Anyway, good post.</f

The tradeoff on a planet between research and production makes sense, because you can view the production slider as being an allocation of people, which are a limited resource. Having more tax dollars or a reserve of funds doesn't change the maximum possible research that can be done because only so many people can put on a lab coat. I would like very much to see individual planet sliders though. I often find myself wasting social producti

Another idea would be to make it so that a certain level of friendliness would be required before the AI would trade with you. This could be adjustable. AI only trades tech with: Warm, Friendly, Close, Ally, All, Not At War, etc.

I think automation is good. You can choose to use it, or not, but anything that makes the game play smoother will make the game more fun. Some people like to manage a ship turn by turn, and others want to just put it on patrol, RTS style. I also agree with the production complaint. Research doesn't have this problem, why should ship production? Simply stating that the game isn't about massive fleets isn't an answer because for a specific

Yeah, that whole system of assessing military strength by looking at total offense plus total defense is broken. Ships with good defense, particularly if they are greater in size, can take out large numbers of "offense only" type ships without sustaining many casualties, particularly if the small ships do not have any advantage in logistics. I often find myself at war with an AI race who became convinced that I was an easy target, despite

Thank you for taking this approach. I was on the fence about going out to get this game, and truthfully I was waiting to see what Penny Arcade had to say about it. Your values on the subject of DRM and copy protection have won me over. I will be purchasing Galactic Civ II. If you're looking for suggestions, I was also impressed with Blizzard's handling of Starcraft. Battlenet provided a similar content-based incentive to not
