Actually, problem might be fixed. Just managed to update the multimedia component. If it still doesn't work, try downloading the standard release multimedia then updating it. Worked for me.

Could be something running in the background preventing the game starting up. Also, if you're running from a limited user account try running it from the admin account and see if it still has problems
Yeah, just download the last multimedia version. Doesn't look like anything has actually changed, unless there's a Drengin Opera or something I'm missing out on
Yeah, have they actually changed any of the sounds in the Beta, or is there a few things lacking sound out there I haven't found yet? Yeah this sucks, I was considering to buy the new expansion after having been away from the game for quite some time but to come back to downloading it again and not being able to get the multimedia content does not make me want to sp
1.0.045 downloads quite happily. Looks like the problem is only with the beta (1.0[rc].046) version, still states the url is invalid on both servers.
I'm getting the same problem too. No biggie since I have the discs, but this looks like it might be server side rather than local (everything else downloads fine).
The UFO : Afterx series is quite a good successor imho. Take2 bought the rights to the X Com IP though, which leads me to suspect that we might see a new UFO game before too long. And for those of you with Steam, Terror From The Deep is now available for a couple of dollars.
Go into direct X diagnostics (start -> run -> dxdiag on XP, not sure about Vista but it should be in the Direct X directory if it's not recognised as a program). Click on sound and turn the hardware acceleration slider right down to none. See if that sorts it out.
finally my patience is running low on your game. usually i like to buy a good product with a promising story and so on. but you do not yourself a favor when you ship some bugged to hell software to us. WE ARE NOT BETA_TESTER!!!!! thank you very much. btw. i have a new computer and also use the newest driver and so on that are available on the net. yours sincerly, a pissed customer As
Okay, first of this is amusing. One, by the way you sound, you probably have a pirated copy, and this is the way your trying to manipulate the staff to get a serial. Or he could just have skipped the page detailing how to use the two serial keys you have on the collectors edition when he was reading all of those posts : "This is a simple but common mistake. The Collector's/Limited Editions of the game
Because, as stated, its a little crazy to be taking over a planet in a week, even if you DO have the ability to drop in on all the urban centers simultaneously... Not really. I have several billion troops in orbit, ships capable of bombardment which you can't actually stop and the capability to screw with your tidal system or simply drive an asteroid into the surface. I can't see any planetary authority deciding to try to hold o
Umm, is somebody forgetting about "Homeworld"? No, but they're definitely forgetting about Haegemonia : Legions of Iron. The two sound very similar (even down to the three factions ). Not that I'd complain if was similar to Haegemonia, it's still one of my favourite games of all time.
I always thought PQ related to the size and available development area on the planet rather than the actual quality of the planet. I don't see the problem with terraforming myself. A PQ1 planet could end up being a PQ 32 planet, or it could wind up being a PQ1 planet. You don't know until you have colonised it (or taken it over). As a result, everytime you colonise a PQ1 planet you're taking a gamble that it can be used for further development in the future. As for the morale pro
I love how you tech people use these lame excuses for bad code. I love how you non-tech people have these strange notions of how code works. Gee, I guess every error ever is solely down to spelling and grammar mistakes! SD just has the good-grace to say, "Yep. We missed that. Here's a fix for it." Eliminate the user? If only... The real problem with stating SDC is copy protec
Maybe space doesn't change. Maybe your military just get paid by the hour....
this excuse that games with bugs are to be expected pretty much says to me that the industry standards are quite lax and need to be changed to protect the end user, There are no industry standards, which is part of the problem. While it's unlikely you'll ever see completely bug free software it would be possible to minimalise it's occurence. In order to do so though you'd need to standardise the PC. Quite frankly, I think more people would be piss
Guys I think there should be some type of fix for it. Turn off mega events? It's not like it can't be turned to your advantage. Remove engines, add more weapons. The AI still doesn't seem to get this tactic.
Don't think you could say they were flawed, in so far as they work. Depending on starting techs there may be something you would want to add that isn't included on the stock model (sensors/life support/engine for example). One of the main uses is the upgrades. You can upgrade a custom coloniser to a constructor and vice versa. Given the long transit times you generally have at the start of the game this can come in handy. For example, if the AI colonises a planet before you reach it, you ca
Sure, it would be an easy win, but it's not as if you can't set up the game for an easy victory at the moment (i.e. crippled custom opponents) if you really wanted to. Not sure why you would want to though. Then again, why not simply have a chance of the AI taking a different alignment?
Overall it certainly stirs things up since I have to revise my strategies. Isn’t that the whole idea of Mega Events? Yup. Think we can rate which ones actually work by the amount of complaints recieved about them?
I've seen the AI actually research two weapons techs at the same time too. Last game the Drengin went missile on their ships, however when talking to them they also had the Mass Driver techs available for trade. The AI adjusts to what you build too. If you see it go all missile and start sticking PD on your ships, it will switch if you end up at war.
I'll step up to the fire and be honest. I pirate games, omg yes I do! Zomg! Heretic Some PC game publishers have this "Release now, patch later" motto that sickens me. Not really. It's not fiscally sound to do this (you need to keep paying the dev team to produce the patches, rather than sacking/assigning to
I think someone would be hard pressed to argue that it had "loads of bugs" or that people were "forced" to update. I guess it's a question of whether the Stardock update service should be considered free or part of the package we paid for. Especially considering the free updates were highlighted as a major selling point for the game...
The focus should be making sure it's more convenient to buy your product than to steal it. Or perhaps making sure your product is worth purchasing in the first place. I'm sure I'm not the only one who balks at paying full price for a game which is almost an exact copy of with different textures. Here, in the uk it i legal to make backup copies from the original. <
Are you running anything else in the background? Wouldn't pay too much attention to Task Manager. It's not the most accurate of monitoring tools.
