i'd like to have patrol too, would make it useful to take out pirates or unexpected enemey warships

Now thats was something I hadn't thought of. I do usually only colonize from my home system. I tend to research half way decent engines so that i'm only drawing pop from where i can. What i didn't think of doing was stopping production on planets. I usually do that mid game. Early game I tend to do factory - market - factory -market on most new planets and then add research on some as need and starports on others..
I like the custom races too, and now i make sure they get a unique territory color. Where do you adjust the personality of the race is it stashed in an xml file somewhere?
I've been watching this thread for the interesting discussion. I have to say that in some games i end up with lots of cash and others i don't. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong. It seems the critical point is right toward the end of the colonization rush that i start to fail in my money, if i don't hit the techs to fix it quick enough i usually end up too far behind to recover in the game. I'd be curious to see some people's strategy on that. do you just make all marketing planets?
Hmm... my ability appears to be capped. None of my ships can go faster than 3 and they have speed 5 & speed 7 if you look at their info screens. Takes me forever to get out of my sphere of influence. And I didn't get the speed restriction mega-event, though that one tends to restrict you at 5 not 3. hmm.. thanks for pointing out that it shouldn't be like it is.
Just some miscellaneous comments from playing DA for a while. - Like the super abilities. My first custom race after finishing the campaign was with the Super Adaptr ability. This turned out to be useless on some maps if there weren't many planets of the two types. My second custom race was with Super Isolationalist, I admit I was expecting that i would have normal movement and everybody else would be limited, but of course i'm limited to 3 speed as well. This has been interesting,
I wonder if you saved a new ship with the name of the one you deleted (same style and such) and then reloaded if it would work. Thus, make a quick game and make a ship of that design and save it again. Or perhaps if the ship designs are saved as a file you can copy another one into the spot. I think you'd be better off if you can remember the design and make it again and save it. reloading should call that file. just my thoughts
I like it too. I was able to build a very strong economy and build up good fleets. Also allowed me to colonize much more strategically. I'm a big fan of mega events.
I'll take a stab: 1) go to the shipyard screen, select your ship type and select upgrade. Slap on the new engines and the gear you want. Now all planets making that design will switch to the upgraded one. Now, you can double click one of the old designs, and select upgrade, you can select the checkbox to upgrade all ships of that type. 2) i think i answered that in one 3) Morale, influence, influence starbases. If the morale is good it should be ok, but if its sm
Nevermind.. sector is different from grid. I had moved all of my ships to the grid coordinate 1,3 which is right next to the morale bonus. But it wants you to go to sector 1,3 which is right near korath territory.
Ok. I have a follow up question. I took a ship and sent it all the way around and parked it on 1,3 and the game never ended. I moved it all around that area and verified the sector but it still didn't end. Anyone else have that happen? I was using the Crimson Blade ship..
Well after reading this thread, I made a few changes to my strategy. The biggest moving the slider to 100%. Immediately my planets were pumping out everything at a nice pace. Thankfully I had already made a whole range of colonys ships (marked speed then max distance in their names). So i ran up the tech tree to drives II. I only had two planets making colony ships and still managed to make them fast enough to have equal population to the torians
Had to reply to this. I like minor races and would like them to go ahead and play the game. Start with 0 techs or what not when they show up, but let them behave like verybody else and maybe even become a major. I think they add a nice variety to the game. What would be interesting, is lets s ay a minor race could use planets nobody else coold. For example they were some race of gaseous what nots and only like gas giants. So if you wipe
Just some observations. Perhaps opening it up to critiques. First, my style of play is to make a customizable race, huge galaxies. I've just put all the competition up to normal and I randomize my opponents. What I'm noticing is that below normal i almost always win. Normal I've lost every time. I tend to rush out a few colony ships early and set them to a distance away from my first colony. I've adapted this strategy somewhat, I've pushed out the
I would definitely like a show starbase option on the minimap. Sometimes in that mid game, I've got ecoonomy and diplomacy starbases all over the base and I'm pumping out constructors, and can't remember where I've left them.
