My last game I invaded 11 planets successfully (Only the Vegans kick my butt... Go figure), and the mini's destroyed two improvements. The game before that I don't recall them destroying anyhting. Thus far on my current game they've destroyed 1 out of the 3 planets I've invaded. Kinda random frequency on stuff being destroyed, but they've been owing stuff with the last two beta patchs for me.

Neutral Learning Centers, or somehting like that.... A learning center that is neutral, gives the highest research bonus of all the research centers. Even beats out the discovery sphere.
I name all my capital and survey/exsplorer ships. Easier for me to keep track of names than numbers. Fighters and "one use" ships (Colony Ships, constructors, etc.) I usually don't bother with. Exception being when a handful of fighters survive long enough to level up a few times, then I name them and lump them into a elite squadron.
My old FX 5700 seems to be handling it fine and I'm running it at 1280x1024.
I ran into "naturally occuring" pirates once. They had two battlships and three heavy fighters and at that time I had the most powerful ship in the major races (frigate class.) Thing couldn't hold a light to that stack. They were in Icronian space so I let them be.
Couldn't of had a higher population, but it was in the middle of everything (the Dregni had a real bad game ) If population is a factor, I'm suprised my econmoic capital wasn't the most influental. Heck, at the end it had two advance farms (one of which was on a small farm bonus tile ) and I don't know how many stock exchanges. Class 29 after terraforming, ha
Ok, the Drengi and I hadanother little spat and this time I ignored their cries for peace when I drove them off. This time I didn't play nice, I took them down hard. I manage to swipe thier homeworld and about 8 of their 14 or so planets before they surrender (to the Yor of all races....) Despite many close calls I manage to win the game (yaaaay!) and notice that Drengi is listed as my most influental (yes, I slaughtered the spelling) planet, and I was
Korx, Drath, and Yor had this problem for me too. Also it did something similar with multiple starbases.
I don't see that as harsh at all, except for this game not being successful. Considering the budget and market for this game, it came out very, very well. I played the other classic space 4xs, but its been so long ago I can't really hold a solid opinion on it anymore. Bitter memories or nostalgia tend to get amplified over time. I really agree with the planet habitation thing, that would make it very intresting, but at the same time very co
I've had it where a I conquered planet has two starports and niether of them will build unless I scrap them and build a new one. Intrestingly, one of them is usually on a square that needs to be terraformed (yellow, orange or red.)
OK, I think I figured something out. Under the "Game" option in the menu you can deselect "Show annomoiy discovery" (or something along those lines.) When you de-select it you will no longer auto-focus on the ship, but you won't really know what you found either... Also under interface there are some nifty options you can choose from. Yay for tinkering with options.... Can't believe I haven't tried that sooner.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060131-6084.html I think thats a decent run down.
Is there any way to turn off the auto-focus on ships? Its really annoying when I'm trying to click on something and all of the sudden I'm jerked half way across the map because my explorer ship got to a annomaly.
It seems to only work with Internet Explorer to vote and not just see the results. Booooooo!!!!
I read a preview somewhere, think it might been gamespot though it might of been gamespy.... Don't remember. On a side note, I can't seem to vote, I can only see the totals.
Um...12 years of files and no back-up? That would actually be YOUR fault if you lost them, no? Exactly. If you can manage it, get a back up for your back up. I've a seperate hard-drive with everything on it and I back up everything to that twice a month. For critical files or just stuff I don't wan
"For instance, I'd like to take this moment to thank Electronic Arts for securing monopoly rights on the NFL franchise of games. By doing so, they eliminated many other football games that were in development which in turn made a lot of very talented artists available." I'm glad something good came out of that! That was an awesome read.
Thats a thing of beauty right there.... I dunno, I played it on normal and I lost Earth 9th turn and they completely ignored little 'ol Mars. Still playing that game, well into the 70's maybe low 80's in turn count. See how it ends.
you invite people to your empire so that it grows and you can rise in the ranks, and feel special Yeah, feel special in that short bus sort of way.... I kid, I kid. Seriously though, I heard that the framework is there for multiplayer so maybe it will be implemented in a large patch
In terms of the game I think it would be nice to have Terror Stars, but only if they are balanced. One possiblity would be to make the main cannon for it ridiculously costly to research. Well, outside the time and cost thing, the purpose of something like this is to be un-balancing. They are considere
If it weren't for the alliances in Europe at the time, all that would have happened was Austria garrisioning more military units in the Balkans. But Russia backed up the Balkans, which brougth the Germans in to help the Austrians, the the French to help the Russians, then the English to help the Belgians after Germany decided to take a detour on their way to France. Now that would be an intresting thing to put in game, assassinating the lead
The Vegans kicked my butt a few weks ago. They somehow started colonizing in the middle of my systems and after they parked a influnece starbase next to my capital, it was on. Un-fortantly they were built way up (actually ranked #1) and I was soundly defeated. I-league manage to get 2 planets a few days ago, but having learned that lesson, I killed them off immediately. This sort of thing seems to happen after the 3rd difficulty level. As fo
Actually, the Star Wars universe had the Sun Crusher which did something very similar. It had special torpedos that made stars go super nova destroying about everything in said system. [/geek] I don't really care for any weapons like the Terror Star. Waste of good resources blowing up systems left and right.
Its ok Twisties, the Vegans utterly destroyed me last game. Ran into the I-League a few games back, I think the Yor took them out. They lasted 9, maybe 10 turns.
One thing I liked about being a good empire is that your five largest colonies cost nothing. That does help the ol' economy out quite nicely. Also I had one incedent as a good empire when every planet that rebeled joined my empire though I was ranked 5th out of 8. That is how I "conquered" the Thalan Empire, all their planets rebeled and joined me. <b
