I always found it galling that you (and the AI) could plop down space stations almost anywhere on the map. Is there a mod that changes the rules for stations so that you can only build them within, say, 3 squares from a planet not controlled by a foreign faction? :)

Indeed good to know. While taking my newbie steps I usually plop them near my colonies to get the production boost. Which raises another question - if a planet is within the range of several bases, do the effects of those stack?
