I just cleaned the floors with 4 "Bright" level comps and I was wondering. I got pretty neat start getting 3 goodish planets and one lvl 6 (had to use that last colony ship on something). So there's questions some in there but it's also a sort of "Game report". The question is really in the last sentence... I set up neat economy and everything is running well. My ships are mostly crap, total crap to be exact, 2-0-0, 0-0-0 small d

Boost up your diplomacy. Also, you need strong basis for military. You might not need to be the strongest military nation, but you need to be considered a thread. In a recent battle over the galaxy, I made a bunch of not so powerful ships, actually I would've been overrun at almost any point of the game, had I been attacked. I got a sweet lvl 29(? or 23, anyway, sweet) planet so i got to boost everything up. By the time I build anything capa

Shields work against Beams Armor works against Mass Drivers Missile defence works against hmmn... Beams? So basically develop the weapons your opponents don't have defence for. As far as I know shields don't block attacks from mass drivers or missiles. But then again, I'm noob too. So if they have shields, use missiles / mass drivers - if they have armor, make beams or missiles (or if you can tech to nano ripper, it'll go through a

Having always being a great fan of technological superiority, I was wondering what you guys think of überfast ships. I read someone saying that with fast enough ships, you can take out entire civilizations in a few turns. So I was thinking - generally the AI seems to be concentrating it's efforts into massing 4+ ship small fleets, maybe later on when logistics get higher, even higher. I have always been trusting a little less amount of ships - say some

I think it'd be cool if you could build a Celine Dion on the orbit and it'd make people flee the planet. That'd be more efficient than a hydrogen bomb.

Skip the initial farm, build it later, first make factories (buy one). Put work % to 100 and military spending to 0 and expand by buy-ing ships. From the little experience I have, building a faster colony ship will increase your chances to get expansions early on. This of course assumes you should have tech for the drives ready quite quickly. And don't take the planet in your galaxy, go for something better, pref. Class 9 or higher. I often

Hmmn this is quite interesting actually. I'm new to the game so I really didn't have that much insight into it - very nice indeed. Do you know if the research bonus thing is intentional or just a sort of bug? Sounds a bit unreasonable that it works differently for military/social..

Don't know if anyone has suggested it yet, but organic ships in some late tech tree would be neat. It's pretty common sci-fi theme that "high tech races" have organic technology and while you can transform yourself into being of pure energy, it'd be cool to have organic ships too. Then you could make a Vorlon race Heh just a thought.

Hmmn yea, nice to hear feedback on this. I've only played the game on normal and after reading that some guys "How to beat difficulty X comp", it became a LOT easier, I just ran over using the strategies told there and they never had a chance. And the idea about the carving out the heart is also that you can take your opponents by surprise - I don't know how the hard AIs react to fleets running on their places, but normal AI doesn't react so

I was going to ask "how you build freighters" I don't see them in the shiplist. And my point of capturing the homeworld was to cripple their ... well everything. I guess in GalCiv II, the races aren't depending THAT MUCH on their capital, meaning they can recover without it. Mhm.

Since I've played a lot of strategy games, mostly RTS, but also MOO2 etc in the contrast. So I was thinking about different offensive strategies for the game and I was wondering what you pros think of this blitz krieg kind of strategy. Striking fast, striking deep, into the heart of the beast. In MOO2, I used to have this race that could develop a tech very quickly and get few offensive ships that cost a lot, but were superior for some time

Ofc, military power is relative. You can have a handful of ships and run over if you wish to go down that road. I've personally always been fond of that approach. Just a few god-like ships and hell lotta bodies. If you haven't read the "newbie" guide, I suggest you do so. Starting up a colony with a few factories is probably a good idea and changin

Oh and still on the planet thingie. I'm not quite sure how the mechanics of it work, but taking out planets with 11k people is a bit hard, I basically will empty up a planet to get the army for it ^^ Also you said you don't usually get that far in the tech tree (to get Nano Ripper). My goal was to develop high tech weapons as fast as possible so I just build up a few mass driver ships for each planet to defend (and few to take out one of the

1. I meant that is there a way to just clean up the planet without having to invade, but i guess not, i'll just concentrate on having big army then. In MOO2 you could just bombard the planets until they were clean for colony ships, or in the late game destroy them with stellar converters ^^ 6. Soooo I just make a bunch of constructors ready? The thing is, I didn't get enough before my opponent decide it was time for them to go - at least for

I just played one game of this at my friend's place and I'm definitely going to get the game! It's great! Aaanyway, with my friend (who just got it a while back) gave some advicish things, I felt quite at home as the game feels a lot like one of my all-time favourites, MOO2. Anyway. I also got a few questions to you pros. 1) First of all, is there a way to flat out bombard planets from orbit without having to attack them? This kind of "clean
