Errr... superhest, by late game the AI has more movesment points per fleet than you can have ships in orbit. Which means defending without an OFM loses the advantage, so I always have one, and put powerful defence ships in orbit. I did not mean a million literally <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 ALIGN="

so when is OFM advantageous then? It isn't. Build a million empty hulls and put them in orbit and you'll nevet lose the planet. Then have a couple of fleets near by to hit'n'run the attackers so you are always the offensive one. Easy <img src="http://images.stardock.com

You could perhaps get around this by leaving your victims with one small planet instead of wiping them out completely. If it's well inside your borders it'll culture flip to you pretty quick Actually I did that... of course they surrendered to the Terrans... so you get credited with the "kill" no matt

This complicates the conquest victory immensely. Not only do you have to be strong enough to conquer a race. You have to be ready to fight the entire galaxy when you have done so because someone might declare war on you without notice and the rest of them will follow. In the game in question I started out with three planets and the Iconian, Drath and Thalans within reach – the rest of the galaxy was out of initial reach. So the on

I think their reason was my extermination of the Iconians and Drath earlier in the game. Which would have been fine, had I attacked the Thalans. If this is the way it is supposed to work I’ll just have to adjust my strategy accordingly but I find it a little hard to work out how to avoid being attacked by everyone if I’m considered the aggressor in a war started by another party. I tried to reload an autosave and attack them first with the s

I agree that the idea is good But remember it was the Thalan that attacked me... and I got flagged as the aggressor. In your example that would be the equivalent to the Drath attacking the Korx instead of the Yor.

I've been playing the new beta for at couple of hours now and the Thalan just declared war on me. The next turn all the "protective" civs declared war on me because "my agression againt the Thalan empire was unjust". On my account that would be the same as Britain declaring war on Poland when Germany invaded I think there is a need for ajusting their paranoia just

I agree. Had 3 military resources in my last game (tough/huge). My basic huge ship had over 100 in each of the 3 off. and def. capabilities... conquest victory in 10 turns or so... and a very boring 10 turns it was

...but I have not noticed the button for resetting all races, or even just your currently selected race, back to default Go to the "my game\GalCiv2" folder and delete the default*.raceconfig files. That'll reset them.

I’ve been playing the betas at Tough and I got roughly two thirds (rounded down though) of the planets of any given race in exchange for peace… never got all of their planets and they usually surrendered to a third party afterwards

As far as I know the ”surrender most of your planets – resistance is futile”-strategy is pretty basic. You only use transports for the minor races…for some reason they won’t give up their planet
